This weekend at polocrosse I won my division, had the highest stats for initial possessions and line-out snags of the whole tournament, and most importantly: Oz was voted Best Horse!!

He was by far the least experienced horse in our division (in polocrosse and in general). But he worked his butt off for me, and took care of a few junior riders with whom I played musical horses for a few chukkas. I couldn’t be prouder.

attended all my lectures (sounds like I did a lot but I only had three haha)

finally understood ECGs!! thanks to a tutorial by our fabulous small animal medicine lecturer

had a polocrosse lesson which is my weekly steam-blow-off

I did so little today that I can’t even call it productive so I’m just going to call it a mental health day and be done with it 😂 I had the weirdest nights sleep last night, I was so broken which is bizarre for me - I can usually sleep through a hurricane! hope you guys had a more useful day than me! xx

My first tournament of the season; Oz’s first tournament ever! He got lots of compliments and lots of “what is that?”’s (he’s a quarter horse/morgan cross, and a menace)

There isn’t enough polocrosse content on this webbed site, so here’s some shots from last weekend. For new followers: yes, I do more than gallop around trails while blasting music

This weekend, the host club tried a new format with an individual champion instead of teams— each division has 6 players, and every chukka (6-minute period) you switch around who you play with and who plays which position. Only in the final chukka do you have any choice in position.

That said, it was extra gratifying that I won my division, and Oz won Best Horse (over quite a few horses that have been playing the game for years). Not only is this his first season playing, but this time last year he was a total restart. He never played the 3 position (defense) in competition before this weekend either!

I think you're the only person outside of my club that I've ever heard mention polocrosse. Personally, I love playing, but I wonder what your thoughts on the sport are?

I really can’t say enough good things about polocrosse. I wish I grew up in an area with a club.

The sport itself fosters great horsemanship. It’s a blast to play and watch. I’ve found the community is incredibly supportive and folks are down-to-earth. Tbh I think the great community has a lot to do with how accessible the sport is (only need one horse, people are happy to lend horses/equipment, super low club dues and tournament fees, you can thrift white jeans, international folks love hosting each other, etc.)
