notes: Have fun with this Cazriel fic that I've been hoarding for 3 months HAHAHAHAHAHAHA
warnings: little bit of angst
It’s always hard being away from your Mates. Especially when Rhysand pulls rank as High Lord to send Cassian and Azriel away. Usually you are able to put on a brave face when they leave. This time was harder than most.
This time your mates had been sent to Illyria for 5 weeks. Spending over a month without them is going to be pure torture. You’ve made it two weeks but the bond in your chest has started to ache in a way that makes you want to keel over and scream.
Loneliness plagues you at night when you fall into your large bed made to accommodate your Mates wings. It hurts more when you wake up cold in the morning, missing their warmth and strong arms holding you. Their fading scents on the sheets isn’t enough for you anymore. You want the real thing back, to bury your face in the crook of their necks, to inhale the scent of night and wind on them from flying.
Wiping away a lone tear on your cheek you look around Cassian’s office. You feel so pathetic crying over them. People are away from their Mates all the time, why can you not handle it?
Running your fingers along the chipped edge of Cassian’s old wooden desk the tip of your finger catches on a notch. A sad smile pulls at your lips as you reminisce about the time Azriel got so bored he spaced out and just dragged Truth Teller across the desk as if he were whittling something.
A knock on the door has you composing yourself. Elain makes her way next to you with a tray of something that smells heavenly. “Hi honey, how are you holding up?” She asks gently.
“As well as I can. The bond is a tricky thing.” A heavy sigh escapes from your lips. Elain lets out a small hum that sounds music like. “Yes, it truly is. I ignored the empty feeling for so long with Lucien, now I can’t picture a day without him.” Adjusting the tray to her hip Elain rests a soft hand on your shoulder. “But they’ll be back soon. And I know they miss you just as much.”
You nod solemnly still staring down at the notch.
Elain’s hand slips to yours. “Come, have tea with Gwyn and I.” She pulls you along, a plan already half formed in that cunning mind of hers everyone seems to underestimate.
Her brother-in-law could never say no to her. Nesta said it was something about Elain’s doe eyes and massive guilt. And who was Elain to let that advantage go. Batting her lashes and flashing her big brown doe eyes at Rhysand had him caving to her request in under five minutes.
A throat clearing sound makes you jump, your attention not really on your book, but on your mates and what they were doing. Cassian has been pretty strict with keeping the bond closed while he’s away. He would never forgive himself if you were infected with his anger and you’re so far apart.
Azriel can’t help but let his feelings slip through the cracks, to let you know he is thinking of you and how much he misses you.
“Azriel has been asking about you,” Rhys starts. “I mean, they both have been asking, and I’ve been honest. Cassian is torn about you visiting, Azriel has leapt at the opportunity to have you with them. Would you like me to take you to Illyria for a few days?” You nod excitedly, jumping up from your seat and dashing to your room to pack a bag.
Within minutes Rhys winnows you to the cabin in Windhaven, leaving you to get settled. You wait patiently for one of your Mates to come home, bursting with excitement at the thought of being in their arms.
Azriel arrives first. Shaking the snow from his inky black hair, his shadows take care of the rest. A few of them swarm next to his ears, one even wrapping itself around his wrist pulling him to the bedroom.
“What-” Azriel cuts himself off when his sight lands on you. Those hazel eyes you love so much widening to a comical size as he registers that you are finally in front of him after weeks apart. Before you have a chance to say hello Az is across the room pulling you into a crushing hug, spinning you around.
“You’re here! You’re actually here, in my arms, oh my love!” His words are muffled thanks to his face being buried in the crook of your neck. You feel his lips curl into smile against your skin
“I’m here Az,” you whisper, not believing it yourself. Once he puts you down you tightly wrap your hand around his, pulling him to the sitting room.
Cuddling up on the couch the two of you talk for hours catching up on everything you’ve missed over the last few weeks. Occasionally you tug on the bond that connects you to Cassian to try enticing him to come home soon.
You close your eyes as the sun sets, shining dark purples and orange hues across the sky. By the time Cassian comes home the sun had set completely. His broody mood matching the darkness outside.
“Az,” Cass calls out in his usual booming voice. “Please tell me you made something for dinner. I'm starving.” Azriel quietly rushes to Cassian telling him to lower his voice. Cassian shoots the shadowsinger with a nasty scowl.
“Just…come here,” Azriel grabs Cassian’s hand to show him what should immediately calm him. The sight of you asleep on the couch has him freezing on the threshold of the sitting room. His hand rose to rest over his heart. The reason you had been pulling on the bond became clear.
And he had ignored you. He didn’t even answer you once.
Guilt pulls at him, anger was quick to replace it though. It’s too dangerous for you to be in Windhaven! You are a distraction to them here. He looks to Azriel again, a new angry scowl on his face.
“What were you thinking? Bringing her here when we’ve talked about this?” Azriel’s face drops. “I didn’t,” was all he said in defense.
You stir at the sound of their voices. Az kneels next to you, gently cradling your face in his hands.
“Hi sweetheart, sorry to wake you.” You let out a small yawn before giving Az a tired smile. “It’s alright. Is Cass back yet?”
Azriel looks back at Cassian, his feet still rooted in place on the hardwood floor. “Yeah, he’s back sweetheart.”
You push yourself up and smile at Cassian. You don’t notice his anger as you wrap your arms around his waist and bury your face in his chest. “Missed you,” you murmured. “More than you know.” Cassian’s resolve breaks and he hugs you tightly to his body. “I missed you too sweet pea. More than anyone could miss a person.” You look up at Cassian with a tired smile.
Cassian melts at how perfect you look pressed against him. His thick fingers brush hair back from your face, pressing a kiss to your forehead. “Have you and Az eaten yet?” You shake your head no, looking a little guilty.
Cassian leads you both to the kitchen, pulling out a chair for you at the table. You watch as Azriel and Cass cook together. Mixing ingredients and passing each other for utensils and spices. Soon enough there was a plate with bread, chicken, and vegetables in front of you.
You forgot how wonderful dinner with your mates is. Tears start to well up in your eyes as you watch Az and Cass joke with each other as one of them holds your hand.
Five weeks is far too long to be apart.
Never again, you vow. You’ll never let Rhys separate the three of you for this long again.
How long before feyre, rhys and tamlin realize this feud of theirs is getting old and them smashing it out would actually be for the better of prythian.
I will be starting a Tamlin x OC story called “The Lions and the Lamb” here and on Archive of Our Own!
The story will take place after the war with Hybern as if there was no Feyre (like she basically doesn’t exist in this).
Tamlin finds a human girl named Alanna in the woods, wounded. He takes her under his wind and discovers that she is his mate. He has dealings in the night court, and soon Rhysand meets Alanna as well. Though Prythian thought there was alas peace, evil is just around the corner.
There will eventually be smut, but will be a slow burn with a soft!Tamlin and soft!rhysand all in a poly relationship! There will be angst.
