Penelope's Suitors Fan Art Sketches Part II

Designs of Amphimedon, Polybus, Leodes, and Ctessipus (or Ktessipos) belong to @messymoonmad

Amphimedon of Ithaca

I didn't really like him, because of his boisterous attitude. Sure the other suitors are bad, but he's on a different level. And somehow, he's worse than Antinous. Which I don't know how that's possible.

Maybe I'll have a different perspective if I get to know him. I mean he does have some sweet moments in his own way.

Also, I grew more curious about his childhood.

What would he want to gain by serving during the Trojan War? What happened to the little boy who dreamed of becoming a noble warrior?

I was almost going to draw Amphimedon with this design, and Agamemnon interacting as described in the, "Odyssey."

I just kept imagining the suitors coming over to Achilles, Agamemnon, and the other guys like little boys who are meeting their favorite heroes. It's kind of cute, but also really sad.

Polybus of Ithaca

Just like Eurymachus, I haven't drawn Polybus since that comic I did.

I have some behind the scenes notes for how I did my comic under my drafts. If anyone wants to know, you're more than welcome to ask.

It really meant so much that you took the time to look over my little art sketches. Thank you!

I want to do more fan art related to him, like draw him with a snake cane based on this ask about how the suitors treat others with a physical disability. Basically, have him in a Lucius Malfoy getup.

When it came to Polybus in the, "Odyssey," I didn't take it Eurymachus' father is the same man that acted as one of the suitors. But, I like the concept so much since it makes sense with your version.

I was actually skeptical at first when I was told Eurymachus' father will be presented as a suitor, and I have no intention of falling for any snakes. Now, he's one of my favorite suitors. The irony.

Leodes of Ithaca

I really like this design of Leodes, especially his earrings, and other accessories. And his cute orange curls, his freckles, and his round green eyes. He really does remind you of an orange.

I didn't like how he died in the, "Odyssey," and felt it was unfair. But, at least he didn't have it as bad as Melanthius... ouch.

Although, I never thought of him as a Tsundere or a Dandere type from my first impression of him. But, it's actually adorable. Surely, he'll look even more adorable if he smiles (. ❛ ᴗ ❛.)

Now that I think of it, doesn't he remind you of Cassandra of Troy? They're both prophets, they worship Apollo of course because he's the God of Prophecies, they're both red heads, and no one believes in them. The difference is Cassandra is cursed, and Leodes isn't.

It's so tragic how my favorite prophets are destined to have the worst fates. They deserve better! I almost forgot about Helenus, Cassandra's twin brother.

He's not cursed, but he is a good prophet. Plus, he gets a better ending than his sister by taking his revenge on the Greeks through the Roman empire. And if he's anywhere like his sister, also a red head.

Ctesippus of Same

Or Ktessipos. Sometimes, I don't remember how to spell his name.

Strangely, I didn't think about how Ctesippus looks like Sokka from, "Avatar: The Last Airbender," until a few fans noticed. I have no idea why it wasn't obvious to me.

Nor how his design looks similar to Antinous. I just thought he looked pretty cool, but definitely the type who will laugh straight at your face with no restrain.

I guess he does remind me of the hyenas from, "The Lion King." Funny enough, the whole plot is just basically Menelaus proving his honor by getting married to Helen, and ruling Sparta. He's Simba 🦁

Or better, his brother, Agamemnon, fighting against their Uncle Thyestes for the rights of their homeland, Mycenae. The Atreides have a long family history. It's not called the curse of the House of Atreus for nothing.

Yeah, I've been mentioning the, "Iliad," a lot. I hope this doesn't bother anyone, because I'm looking forward to the musicals.

They include Peter Barber's, "Melody of War," Arwen Wen's, "All Fall Together," and Jorge Rivera-Herrans's, "Ilium," Another one I can think of is, "Paris: The Musical," but I haven't saw that one yet. Again, not sponsored by them.

As you can see, the suitors are on a certain panel to parallel with the other set of suitors.

Amphimedon = Antinous ---> the most ruthless and toughest guys... and unhinged

Polybus = Eurymachus ---> they're father and son. Need I say more?

Leodes = Amphinomous ---> the least problematic, and the sweethearts

Ctesippus = Agelaus ---> the only two who are not wearing gold jewelry, wear blue clothes, about the same age (I don't remember)... actually they probably don't have that much in common

I hope you guys enjoy my sketches of the suitors. The next set I'm planning on will be the servants. Be sure to keep an eye on that.

POLYBUS - the longest-standing suitor

Polybus is one of the first suitors (in my AU) who arrived at the palace when Odysseus left. He is the father of Eurymachus, is 58 years old, and stands 2.05 m tall.

He is the quietest but most respected person in the room

He is someone who is quiet, serious, with a dead stare that can intimidate anyone in the room. He is known not only for his personality, but also for coming from one of the most renowned and long-lived noble families in the territory

Among the group of suitors we know, he was the first to become a suitor at the age of 38 (Eurymachus was 5 years old) because he saw a million-dollar financial opportunity

As we have seen before, Polybus is a person whose only interest is his own benefit and keeping his family at the top, a greed that grows more and more regardless of anything else, including if that means making several sacrifices, as was the case with Eurymachus...

He had a total of five wives, the first four of whom he had abandoned when they failed to give him a male heir, until he met Eurymachus' mother, whom he married and had Eurymachus with, but she mysteriously disappeared (it is rumored that she ran away as soon as Eurymachus was born, or... perhaps it was something else)

If you're wondering, he raised his other daughters, and Eurymachus came to live with them, but they were forcibly betrothed to acquaintances of their father's in order to “preserve the family legacy,” and from that point on, the relationship between Eurymachus and him went downhill.

If he gets angry, he won't show it, but he will do everything he can to use his contacts to ruin your life.

His father-son relationship with Eurymachus is somewhat tense. One moment they can be calm, and the next they can be fighting and yelling like crazy, but in front of others they can put on a show.

Eurymachus sometimes has to control what he says because he makes many offensive comments.

He always criticizes anyone who is “inferior” to him, people who do not have the same high status as him. In his words, they are irrelevant people who should be grateful that someone like him even passes by them (he criticizes Melantho a lot for being a vulgar woman and for being a mere servant).

He knows how to put on a good front, too good...

No suitor wants to anger him or upset him, his name already carries enough weight, not even Antinous, who is the most disrespectful to his elders, dares to do (also because Polybus helped him and his father become nobles)

He died at the hands of Odysseus, seven arrows in his back

I designed all 15 suitors of Penelope that are mentioned in the Odyssey… I have no regrets, I love them so much, I will never let them go. Considering yapping sessions for each one based on their known stories and my headcanons for them
