I know everything is awful and life sucks right now but I just came across this really good note I took a while back regarding procrastination, and I want to share it because it could help some people, regardless of anything else’s going on on our lives right now which, as I stated already, currently suck.
The big idea: A pile of sand vs a sandbox - constraint makes all the difference.
Kids will play in a sandbox for hours, but only because there are four walls to keep the sand in.
You can wall off unpleasant tasks by giving yourself a playful goal: ten minutes to empty the cluttered shelf of everything that doesn’t pertain to its supposed purpose, or whatever.
By putting a time constraint on a task you’re turning the dreaded chore into a game. Ten minutes later: Voilà. Done.
And if not done completely, still a hell of a lot better than before, eh?
