I sewed something other than jeans! Hard to believe, right? I needed something totally different than my normal go-to, and this project was perfect. Also got out the nice camera to take actual photos (thank you, @jrmcclurg ❤️ ) Although I rarely sew knits, I recently purchased this gorgeous French terry @iseefabric (in the color clay) and thought a lounge set would be fun to make. The sweatshirt is self drafted (had to take in a lot as I was sewing it, even though I sewed two mock-ups beforehand!) and a pair of basic shorts using my #pomonapants (shorts) pattern. People ask me all the time if you can use a knit fabric for the Pomonas and the answer is yes! Although it depends on how you want the fit and how stretchy your knit is, you can size down one or two sizes. For this project, I decided to use my base size (size 4) and then remove 2" total width at the "side-body" grain line. This gave me a very fitted pair which is what I wanted (also used up less fabric...win)! I then lowered the waist by 1" for a slightly lower rise, and took off another 1" of the foldover waistband so I could use 3/4" wide elastic instead of 2" as the pattern calls for. I also cut the hem of the shorts a bit differently than the original pattern. I measured 4" from the front and back crotch points to mark the hemline. I then drew the hem so it curves up slightly at the front, and then dips back down a bit to the back. You can see the photo in the next few slides of my altered pattern. For the hem, I chose to simply serge the raw edge and leave it as is. I hate bulky seams on shorts! When sewing with knits I find if I can use my serger for the majority of sewing, there's less swearing involved and an all around more pleasant experience. 😆 I used a matching thread for the serger needle, and “serger thread” that was a close enough match for the lower loopers. I was able to use the serger for everything except the waistband of the shorts, which had to be topstitched to encase the elastic (used the stretch-stitch, which is basically a really tiny zig-zag and worked out perfectly). Next I think I'm going to use the leftover fabric to make a pair of tapered Pomona pants! ☺️ https://www.instagram.com/p/CFSxQ56AObN/?igshid=130gqlfvwp2tc
