Sorry if this is obvious already and I just completely missed it but I'm kinda confused about snowy's parentage (if that's the right word), with echo being her mom but I'm 90% sure prancer and pondfish are in a relationship, so is echo a surrogate for the two? And was she the one who had all the miscarriages? (And sorry again if I got something wrong and for shortening their names)

Well...tECHNICALLY... yeah... but it isn't a conscious decision, there was no communication about it and they don't even realise that's what they have technically done.

Prancer and Echowhisper are "happily" married and Echo indeed had all those miscarriages (and stillbirths). Prancer is Snowy's father and Echowhisper is her mother, a traditional TOTALLY HETEROSEXUAL family, like they are expected to be.

So what about Pondfish? What is his role here?

How the other cats see it, Pondfish is just a close family friend.

He has no children and is unmarried, he has no one waiting for him at home. He and Prancer have known each other for a long time and everyone knows they are best friends, obviously he is the cat he turns to when he needs company. Boys will be boys no matter how grown they are! How nice of Prancer and his family to include this lonely middle-aged man in their family! It must be so nice for Snowy too to have Uncle-Popo around to play with!

That's how it is, it must be, because being gay doesn't exist! Or if it did... surely two respected preachers wouldn't do such a thing...

Surely I'm the only one having these feelings.

Sometimes, in silent moments we share, it feels like he does as well, but it must be just wishful thinking. And even if it wasn't, it's not like it could ever be. He is a man of god, he knows better than to stray from the path set for him.

So, I will not say anything. I'll take the little moments, stay by your side, settle on being your friend. Even if it is too little for me, it's better than scaring you off and having nothing at all.

TL;DR

Prancer and Pondfish would be gay together if it was allowed. Since it isn't, they are "friends". Free Echo from this hell.

So Prancer and Pondfish are husb and waif, and they can't have kittens... Is adoption well seen in their religion? I love how pretty Pondfish is!

Alright, multiple people have been a bit confused about this so I clearly need to clear things up a bit! This is a perfect chance to do so, so thank you for your question!

This is Echowhisper, Prancer's wife. It hasn't been stated on page, but they got married sometime after prologue.

They are indeed struggling to have kits, but it isn't unique to them. There is a lore reason it is very common to have very small litters and many stillbirths, and you will find out about it later!

Adoption only happens when a kit loses both their parents, and those kits are given to queens who already have kittens of their own. The cult believes God gifts children when they are deserved, so a childless couple like Echowhisper and Prancer would not be trusted with an orphaned kitten. It would be going against God's will.

This is Pondfish.

He is Prancer's fellow preacher and his best friend. Their marriage would not be allowed, since they are both toms and the cult has a very narrow view of what relationships should be like.

Ironically "not being able to have kittens" is one of the reasons same-sex relationships are frowned upon, despite many cisgender heterosexual couples also having the same problem. Cults aren't exactly logical...

But you are very right, Pondfish is very pretty and many wonder why he hasn't yet married! How curious! What a mystery!

Because of nepotism. He is charming, but wouldn't be even nearly as popular if he wasn't from the Rockstar family.

2. Honeysong

He is very handsome and well-mannered. Most of the cult consider him near perfect. Every parent wants him to be their son-in-law.

3. Eveningmist

No one really has anything bad to say about Eveningmist. Very well liked by everyone.

4. Pondfish

Some cats have their own thoughts about him, but wouldn't dare to voice their opinions, because most of the cult would tear them to shreds for it. Almost everyone loves Pondfish!

5. Windsinger

There is quite a gap between Pondfish and Windsinger in popularity, but he is more liked than the rest of the cats. You either love or hate him, and currently more cats love him.
