The city stretches along the right back of the River Ticino and is a very vibrant and multifaceted destination that should be on any visitor's bucket list. Visiting the many marvellous monuments in this city is a treat for the mind and for the spirit — and none better so than the 'Ponte Coperto' ('Covered Bridge') that connects the historical centre to the district of Borgo Ticino. The stone and brick arch bridge – also known as 'Ponte Vecchio' ('Old Bridge') – was reconstructed in the middle of the 14th Century to replace the ancient Roman bridge whose piers are still visible. It was bombed during the Second World War and work was carried to restore and reconstruct the bridge in the early 1950s. It is one of Pavia's most famous landmarks due to the fact that it's got a trussed roof, is divided into five different arcades, and even bears a chapel. Definitely take a pleasant walk through this fascinating structure and enjoy the ceaseless, silent flow of water below. Pavia is only a 40-minute journey from Milan by train, and is also reachable from Alessandria, Genova, Voghera and Piacenza. ______________________________________ #ig_pavia #pontecoperto #in_lombardia #lombardy #lombardia_super_pics #lombardia_bestphoto #igerslombardia #shotz_of_lombardia #loves_united_lombardia #italia #italy_illife #ilikeitaly #browsingitaly #theprettycities #raw_italy #thehub_lombardia #vscoitaly #igersitalia #yallersitalia #yallerslombardia #new_photolombardia #clickfor_lombardia #lombardia_city #vivolombardia #visitlombardia #iglombardia #travelblogger #cnntravel #bbctravel #estateitaliana (at Pavia, Italy) https://www.instagram.com/p/CBfsSx6oDT_/?igshid=1ud9cu352p2ia
