I might have more in time for Clay, but for now this one little headcanon wouldn't leave me be and I wanted to share it with you lot. Hope you like
-One of the last things that Clay Calloway did with his wife before she died was sit by her hospital bed, holding paws and singing to her. This would be the last time he ever sang (until Ash convinced him to come to the show) and it was right as Ruby was dying and she asked him, very softly as her voice was so weak, to hear a song one last time. Clay did his best to keep his voice steady even when he felt Ruby's grip on his paw weaken and her breathing becoming more shallow. He'd just finished the last part of the song when Ruby's eyes closed, her breathing ceased, and the only sound in the room was the heart monitor flatlining. And then it was joined by the cries Clay was holding back the entire time he was singing. And that's the grief and heartbreak that became his only companion for the next fifteen years.
