U know those posts that are like "lemme BLOW UR WHOLE MIND!!!!!!!" and then just a list of popular trends from the late 90s/early 2000s followed by half the population of earth commenting "holy shit, what a blast from the past, we all had the exact same childhood, this hit me right in the nostalgia," etc.? well if ur like me, then those posts are basically just reminders that u did not, in fact, have the same childhood as other people ur age, filled with obscure, half-remembered references to a culture u only glimpsed through the lens of other people as you were growing up.
feeling alienated? no worries! heres a nostalgia post for the rest of us!
SOMETHING LIKE A 90S KID BUT MOSTLY JUST POOR AND ABUSED NOSTALGIA:
does everyone in my grade except me have conference calls to agree on what strange thing i’ve never heard of is gonna be cool for the next arbitrary amount of days, or...?
what the fuck is a Silly Band? theyre... rubber bands in shapes? everyone at school seems to have ten thousand- oh, wait, now they’re uncool suddenly, nevermind
ooh, heelys seem fun, is that kind of like roller blades, i’m pretty good at- okay, i guess thats “kid stuff” now, not sure when i grew out of this trend i could never afford to participate in
what the fuck is webkinz? i still dont know and at this point im way too embarrassed to ask
hand-me-down clothes and fighting over whether or not something still fits
the unimaginable decadence of going to a friends house and eating NAME BRAND cereal, pop tarts, blueberry bagels... basically anything other than generic cereal or oatmeal
the WHUMPfwoosh of the church doors opening in the winter and all the cold air getting sucked into the silent, freezing sanctuary
sitting in the living room in the empty house, then freezing and bolting like a rabbit, erasing any sign of your presence, once you hear the garage door
~*~*disney channel*~*~ by which of course i mean “yea ive heard of that but it wasnt nearly as big a part of my life as people seem to think it was and ive never seen any of these movies that people my age INSIST were formative to our collective experience”
that one friend who keeps inviting you to hang out with everyone and paints a target on your back by kindly asking the rest of your grade to be nice to you
