Hey chikibeibi! So I thought about leaving an ask if you don't mind.
I just thought that chronologically, LoK is a world pre WWI. That war was caused by the assassination of a famous political figure the archduke Franz Ferdinand. Thinking about who is important enough in loks world to fulfill that role, i think that probably would be Suyin.
My ask is: how do you think the rest of the family (for drama's sake, specifically Lin) would react to Suyin being assesinated? And how do you imagine the political repercussions?
Anyway have a great night!
Hey there G ;) So lovely to chat with you again!! And holy cow, what an AU this would be 0-0
If this comes after the events in LOK, I think there would be some very interesting and also serious ripple effects from the death of Suyin. For one, it's known that Lin reestablished her relationship with Su, so she'd be devastated. Like, after spending a week with her sister again, Lin was ready to become combustion dust and act as a decoy with P'li and said "I love you" to her. I can't imagine how she'd react if she lost her baby sister after she just got her back...
All the world leaders are basically supporters, close friends, or work closely with Suyin, so I can see it primarily uniting the different areas of the ATLA world because of it. Tarlok would voice his support because Suyin saved his daughter once, the Fire Nation would be there with the Water Tribes because Izumi and Suyin were basically cousins. Tenzin, while is a RC council member, may have the tendency to stay neutral, but I think with a more familial matter like this, he would try to help Lin as much as he could without voicing his support for a war. And then while most of the Earth Kingdom is now broken up into different leaders for the cities, I think many would rally behind Zaofu after they lost their matriarch.
Lin wouldn't rest until she found the assassin, and when she does and kills the person (because no matter how rigid Lin is with the laws and rules, she takes things into her own hands when the matter concerns family. This is as personal as it gets), I can see her breaking down somewhat. Just... her family was broken for so long, but then it became whole again (for her, at least), and now its basically gone. To make this angstier, perhaps Toph just passed away and then Suyin was assassinated. Lin never had time to grieve her mother, and now she has to avenge her sister and then grieve for the both of them. She'd be beside herself and so sad. (But also what if Toph was also assassinated with Suyin? Double ouch).
As far as what happens with the political environment, I can see a bit of disarray for a while, perhaps fingers being pointed at different cities and nations on who they think killed Suyin, but I think in the end, Zaofu would find another leader and they'd pick up where they left off. Had Zaofu claimed more cities in the Earth Kingdom as part of their land and now suddenly were unclaimed, then I think that would be cause for a war for territory. But Ba Sing Se basically already fell from the monarchy, and most towns had local politics to deal with. The only kind of war I can see being waged would be against a group that claimed responsibility for Suyin's death. So something similar to the Red Lotus, but a group that incites more chaos and destruction for the sake of destroying things and for greed.
Okay, I think that covers most of my thoughts when it comes to this scenario! Feel free to stop by with another question or two if I didn't answer anything, though. :) But seriously, what an interesting situation this would be! Thanks for sending this in, and I hope you have a great day! :D
......
Send me asks about ATLA, or anything, really! :D
That guy from the morning was over the hill no matter how you look at him.
Mai is talking about Lin hahahahaha
we don't officially know his age, right?? But if Bou-san's 25ish...Lin might be 30- 35?
and that makes you *over the hill* apparently
as someone who is 31 I'm offended Mai (LOL)
but also: have you seen Lin? he's like so hot what even Mai??
summary: Lin's OLD
AS THE HILLS
I MEAN JUST LOOK AT HIM
*korra bowing at lin*
"chief please bestow apon me the power of the big booty bitches gods in order to shake my ass like that for my girlfriend asami"
lin: "idk mane i would just do a set of squats every time i got flustered by my partner"
korra: "well how many was that then?"
lin: "a lot."
BRUHHHHH LMAO
When Lin lost her bending, how did she ever get out of her uniform?
This legit never crossed my mind until today. It had to be at least a day between Amon's escape and everyone being in the Southern Water Tribe. Did Lin have to sleep in her uniform because she couldn't bend it off? Did someone bend it off for her?
“Please, no, I am-- no, I’m just fine thank you.”
“Cool” wouldn’t exactly be t he word to describe the sound, Gene.
(Lol, I just remembered my saxophone gathering dust and I thought of this.)
I hated Mako at first, tbh, because I, too, got too into fandom things before watching the show to its completion. But when I actually thought about it I went 'hey, Mako's actually an incredible person who handles most situtions better than even could have been expected, especially given all of his *completely unaddressed* trauma who is unfairly hated by the fandom'. And with Su, I loved her at first, then went. . . 'hold up why was I okay with anyone treating Lin this way'
Hey Anon, thanks for the ask! I like your thoughts on LOK as well lol.
Yeah I think Mako is a little misunderstood because he had to grow up as a kid and take care of his little brother. And Bolin is so aloof and trusting that someone had to be hardened and skeptical of people that were being too nice to him. Definitely not easy, and I'm sure some, if not most of his issues that we see in LOK stems from his experience growing up. I also agree with the point that given what we know about him, Mako is pretty good about handling stressful situations and helping the Krew. Like you said, a lot of his trauma is only mentioned, never really addressed, and I feel like that would've been an important thing to be covered for his character development?? What do I know though.
Honestly, they did a good job making me feel like Suyin was the better Beifong of the two. But then you realize that Lin is just so selfless and perfect and treated so poorly, maybe Suyin isn't the best, but actually the worst??
Sigh... Sometimes it really be like that...
