@seoulsborne123
happy late birthday, mai!!!!
Star Maker 2023 vs 2019 I really enjoyed repainting this one. Maybe in a few more years I'll give it another go!
i had the time of my life fighting ghosts with you 👻
When I was translating Mai’s short story, Kazumi’s POV about how Mai is so popular & how one of the reasons is that her face is so expressive that any boy will find her interesting cracked me up BECAUSE IT’S SO POINTEDLY DESCRIBING NARU LVHCHLCOUCK
Like it literally describes him & how this is exactly how he acted in the manhole w/ her, smiling because her expressions just show her mind so well & it AMUSES him.
And you just wonder how many times did he take a peek at her when he’s at the lounge in SPR office w/ the excuse of sipping tea & watching her do her work just to see her face because no way would he read her so well if he didn’t take LOTS of peek ykwim
A couple of Harry Potter screencaps that I painted using M. Graham gouache, on linen panels, 4"x6".
Wait. This was flagged and I never knew about it until now. So apparently this is sexual content??? I mean Gene and Yasuhara are sexy, sure, but damn.
Yasuhara and Gene playing doubles 1 in my AU: Game, Set, and Match. Gene would be the showy one, jumping around and having many trick shots. Yasuhara would prefer covering from the baseline and supporting his bestie.
(I used Federer and Wawrinka as reference)
Game, Set, and Match
Mai Taniyama never expected to care about tennis—until she met Oliver Davis, the school's aloof, untouchable tennis captain and ace. She’s struggling to find her passion, while he’s too busy carrying his team to care about anything outside the court. A literal collision between the two sets off a rivalry, sparks an unexpected friendship, and eventually forges a bond of mutual respect. What starts as an attempt to prove herself turns into something more as Mai gets pulled into the relentless world of competitive tennis. And to Oliver, the girl who once seemed like nothing more than a passing annoyance begins to challenge him in ways he never expected—both on and off the court.
I'm resurrecting this one.
I realize I'm just sensory-driven when it comes to art. More often I will choose a media based on what my mind craves to feel. For example my mind will crave the feeling of running a wet loaded brush across a textured surface. Maybe it wants to experience light movements, like laying down light layers, with heavily loaded pigment at tip that's free to flow easily. Then in that case I consider "watercolor". Then at that point I ponder what I want to draw: realistic, or anime? If the medium and topic doesn't sit well for some reason, I look for similar feels. In this case to my mind generally my watercolor and anime don't mix, so I'll stick with alcohol markers since it gives the same watercolor feel.
Sometimes I'll crave the feeling of something buttery. How buttery? Sliding on a surface buttery? Oil pastels, acrylic paint, oil paint. Thick, wet, globs buttery? Oil paint it is.
Sometimes it can be about the subject itself. Do I crave the feeling of being confined to definite structure? I'll do portraits, animals or people. Do I crave layering moving lines? Animal portrait. Etc.
It's 2024 and I think it's high time for a Ghost Hunt remake that covers all of the original series with an OVA or movie for Akumu no Sumu Ie because Hirota is hilarious
Naru: You say pumpkin carving.... but you just attached fruits and drew on the pumpkin....
Mai: shhh!
Happy Halloween GH
"Listen Naru, so our client said ..."
Many years and they still use the mug~
[Contains spoilers for Akumu no Sumu Ie]
In the manga it was just mentioned in passing that Naru and the others built a barricade of furniture in front of the full-length mirror, but in the novel they actually used the monitors from the base, too. So it got me wondering if Naru will worry about his monitors when it's time to start cleaning/packing up XD
————
"Well then," Matsuzaki-san said, "what will we do with those?" She pointed at the heap of broken monitors by the full-length mirror.
By now most of the furniture used for the barricade had been returned to their proper places, and the chaos in the Agawas' residence had begun to wind down. All that remained to be organized were SPR's equipment. Half of it stayed miraculously safe within the base, while the other half was pushed to an unobstructive corner of the corridor.
"I don't mind cleaning up, but man..." Bou-san shook his head regretfully. "It kinda hurts seeing these high-quality monitors destroyed." He turned to Noll, who was leaning by the wall and overseeing the cleanup. "Sensei, are these insured?"
Noll shrugged. "They’re not so expensive as to qualify for insurance."
Mai interjected with a sideward tilt of her head, "But didn’t we use all of our monitors? Even if one monitor isn't expensive, wouldn’t twenty actually cost a lot?"
That gave him pause. She had a point.
"And didn't we upgrade to these monitors just before you went home?" she added. "Wouldn’t you get in trouble with SPR?" He saw the first signs of worry lining her face, and he couldn’t help frowning, too.
Again, she was correct.
While Noll had been fortunate enough to be awarded a research grant by the Londenberg Foundation, his balance was unfortunately not unlimited. Asking for more money as soon as he arrived in Japan and a mere few months after being given a generous special grant didn't seem feasible.
However, a potentially fatal situation called for emergency measures. Surely he could appeal to both reason and sympathy when he begged.
Slightly relieved by his conclusion, he replied, "Don't worry about it."
"Hah. You're awfully confident, aren't you?"
"I'm the most valuable asset of SPR, after all." Rather than a reply, it was more of a reminder to himself.
His team stared at him with thunderstruck expressions. Now that they'd uncovered his identity, they were also aware of his credentials. They wouldn't be able to refute him.
He smirked, even as he scrambled for a plan to report this to SPR in a way that would generate funds instead of reprimands.
————
This was in Naru's pov, but without his reasoning behind his replies everyone would be like
Mai, devastated: 'Y-You—! You narcissist!'
Bou-san, resigned: '...It's true and he has the right to say that... I guess...'
Ayako, blasé: 'What a narcissist.'
Masako, frsutrated: 'Why do I like this guy?!'
John, troubled: 'Shibuya-san...'
Lin, already suffering because he knows he'll be handling the paperwork: '...'
Anyway, what do you think? Will Naru worry about the monitors or is he too valuable an asset to care? Lmao!

Genki: Mai’s Short Story & the Love Conflict
I’m really sorry for this veeeeery late update. A lot of things happened in between, however, I’m so happy to finally be able to share this to you!! I’ve been poring over this short story, rekindling my motivation and delving into the GH world again with a lot of nostalgia.
A heartfelt thank you to @csakuras for helping me with some blurry kanji a few years back (this really is a long time coming, sorry T_T). I wrote my thoughts posted after the Notes here about 3 years ago, and I still think the same so nothing much was changed except some elaborations.
I will still be busy due to online classes, but I have restarted on Bou-san’s story. I will come back with his story next time~
Enjoy reading~
(Extra Note: The line breaks always disappear when I have people tagged correctly, so I just used dashes instead T_T)

Ghost Hunt News: Paperback Novel Volume 3! (And other news)
Kadokawa’s official Ghost Hunt site updated with more news!
1) The cover for the paperback edition of the 3rd novel has been revealed! It will go on sale September 24, 2020.
2) There is going to be a raffle for people who bought the first two volumes. The prize: Volumes 1 & 2 autographed by Fuyumi Ono! You can enter by submitting a picture of your receipt to the Kadokawa app or sending in the tickets (found on the wrapper of the novels) taped to a postcard. This will probably only be available to fans living in Japan. ^^;
3) Voice actress Ayana Taketatsu will be performing a documentary style commercial for the Ghost Hunt novels that will be broadcast on both terrestrial and internet radio! Ayana Taketatsu is a big Ghost Hunt fan herself and recorded this in a supposedly haunted studio, lol. (I don’t know if overseas fans will be able to listen to this at all, but I’ll keep an eye out.)
4) There will be Ghost Hunt articles featured in two magazines:
Da Vinci September 2020 Issue has a new illustration of Naru & Mai by the cover illustrator of the paperback editions, a few interviews, character popularity rankings, and fan casting for a potential live action adaptation. (I have a copy of this and will make another post about it later. For now, here’s a picture of the new illustration!)
Kai to Yuu vol.005 will have an introduction to the Ghost Hunt series, character popularity rankings, and an essay by Shiho Inada & mystery writer Mizuki Tsujimura titled “Ghost Hunt and I.” This will go on sale August 31, 2020.
So much stuff!!! Seeing this much attention brought to the series again makes me really happy. ;__;
OMFG OMFG OMFG I saw the new covers earlier but wanted to know if they’re going to make more because the new ones are soooo pretty omfg
Bou-san’s Short Story: The Green Home
I fell asleep last two nights 🧍♀️🧍♀️🧍♀️ T_T But finaaaaallly! IT’S HERE AAAAAH TT It’s done! I feel like I stewed over each short story for so long, but at the same time I’m so glad for taking it in. I didn’t want it to take years, but life is just
Anyway, this short story will feel a bit different than other stories because, well, I decided to do it in present tense. This is in line with this short story’s feeling of immediacy as the narrator is talking in the moment, and I felt there was no other way to interpret that sense of immediacy but using present tense.
Without further ado, happy reading!
