A small look at the HUGE world of lost Sims 2 Broadcasts on TV
Partially Lost British BBC "Newsround Showbiz" Will Wright Interview Segment about new features of The Sims 2
Partially Lost because we do know what questions the interviewer asks. But we don't have the actual footage. Or probably it is somewhere out there. I'm sure someone recorded every episode. Anyways we do know what was said in the segment because there's a transcript on the official website that's still up.
Lost German 3sat Broadcast About The Sims 2 Beta:
This took place in Fall of 2003. Around September. It aired twice on the German documentary station called 3sat. The first time I'm Not entirely sure on. The 3sat archives from 2003 list The Sims 2 in a "Games Convention" report that took place on the 25th of August in 2003 though it's unclear if it really is this clip or if it's the same Jennifer-Ernie-Jessica love square that's pretty infamous for grilling Jennifer in the hottub.
The second airing took place on the 26th September 2003. This broadcast is infamous for being one of the only Sims 2 Beta playthroughs to feature exclusive and unique differences to the retail version of the game. It showcases a family and a house that was used during promotion.
Theres also mentions of a few showcases of The Sims on Console that happened in multiple gaming magazines from 3sat but apparently those haven't been archived either sadly.
Lost Swedish "Kontroll" on SVT 2 Broadcasts Potentially About The Sims 2:
On the Official Swedish Sims 2 Website there was an announcement that a Gaming Magazine would air on March 15th 2004 for 12 weeks every Monday. Apparently it was broadcast on the Swedish channel "SVT 2". The text does not go into detail what relations it has to The Sims or if it was even featured on it. Though it probably did otherwise it wouldn't have an announcement on The Sims™ Website. Anyways no screenshots nor footage exist from The Sims segments from what I could find.
The first of the 12 episodes can be found on YouTube. That doesn't have a Sims segment in it. The other 11 episodes, where a Sims segment could probably be, seem to still be lost as of now.
Lost French "France 5" Special About The Sims
According to a few French fanwebsites it was broadcast on May 27th in 2005. It was speculated to be about the development and history of The Sims 1 and The Sims 2 and may have showed some insights and behind-the-scenes of creating the game. No screenshots of this exist to my knowledge.
And that's BARELY scratching the surface of how many reports there are out there.
The pack is composed out of 4 recolors made out of a sims 4 crosswalk I found online. Two crosswalks and two lines, both with yellow and white versions. You can do various different designs mixing and matching them, so have fun.
Spaik's Brick Patio Super Set Repo'd to BB's Niche
Anon request. This set was very similar to BB's Niche, the main texture was even identical, but BB's has way more recolors and add-ons (probably because it was free and T$R stuff used to be paywalled). I ran the set through the Repo Wizard and they now pull textures from BB's Niche. They all work with the quarter tile cheat and are found in the columns categories. Guids and filenames are the same
2026/05/24 : Fixed footprint (Sims walking through the shelves), and fixed slots refusing lots of deco clutter.
2026/05/24 : Edited doors slots so they won't eat the shelves anymore.
Everything you need to know under the cut :
The shelves are priced from 40$ to 240$ and categorized as Surface>Shelves. The plain doors are priced from 15$ to 90$, the glass doors from 20$ to 120$ and both are categorized as Deco>Misc.
The shelves have 5 slots for each box. You will only use 3 of them at the same time because the ones on the sides are really close to each other because depending on the size of the deco clutter you want to place on it, you will sometimes need one or the other. For exemple, the deco books and the small easels are using different slots on the edges otherwise they'd clip with the sides or with each other (you can tell with the candles that show you the 5 slots) :
I also edited the door meshes a bit : some had offset handles (they are now centered). I also raised them up a little to prevent them from touching the floor : they are now properly aligned with the shelves.
I also repo'd the glass of the glass doors to the Banquet of Six dining table from the Glamour kit, because I already have a few recolors for it (and the game has two different colors anyway so it's still nice even without recolors). Everything else is repo'd to the Dahlen bookcase from the Basegame.
Please note that I might have edited the filenames as I have them in my game for YEARS so you should take care to remove them from your Downloads folder before adding my edits as they might not overwrite the old files. Catalog description in ENG and FR. Press M to switch between slots. The doors will go on the shelves slots and be misplaced because of it, so place the doors before you place the shelves (or use slot blockers).
And I think that's it ?

Sorry for the second update in less than an hour but...I had to edit the doors slot because since I edited the shelves slots, the doors were going on the shelves slots and ended misplaced because of it.
Please redownload, and just place the doors before you place the shelves (or use slot blockers).

I have returned from a grueling 48-hour adventure deep within the Maxis mines, and have witnessed unspeakable man-made horrors with my own two eyes — the object limit is very real and there is nothing that can be done to fix it! The end times are upon us!
Okay, I'm being slightly dramatic. It could be fixed fairly easily, but not with a simple patch, and likely not without access to the source code (anyone else tired of hearing that excuse?).
The issue is that the limit isn't localised to purely the Build/Buy menu — it's integral to every aspect of the game that involves objects. Here are just a few examples of the game's functionality that would need modifying to remove the limit:
Sim pathfinding and routing.
Mapping tree tables to objects.
Interacting with objects.
Manipulating objects within lists (reading/writing/deleting them).
Objects being unselectable in the Build/Buy menu was also a result of this limit and I managed to fix it very quickly, but because The Sims 2 is a house of cards with the limit as its foundation, everything started falling apart almost instantly.
"So, what is this limit?", I hear you ask. 32,767. Yes, you read that correctly. The game is only willing to accept object IDs up to a meager value of 32,767. In computing terms, this is the maximum value of a signed 16-bit integer. It can store many more objects than this in a list, which is why you can still see all your 4t2 objects in the catalogue, but it isn't designed to recognise this many IDs and thus can't do anything with them.
Why are integers signing things? Are they famous or something?
'Signed' refers to the fact that these are integers (an integer is just a whole number btw) that can represent both positive and negative values — negative numbers have a negative sign before them, hence the term 'signed'. An unsigned integer is therefore one that can only represent positive values.
While they can both represent the same total of different values, the range of representable positive values differs. Using 16-bit integers as an example:
Unsigned: 0–65,535
Signed: -32,768–32,767
This shows that both can represent 65,536 different values, but the range of positive values for signed integers is half of that of unsigned integers. Object IDs cannot be negative, which means Maxis deliberately chose to use signed integers as a way to cut the ID limit in half.
The cherry on top of all this is that the game is manually converting 32-bit numbers into 16-bit numbers to enforce this limit. This is why I could fix objects not being selectable in the Build/Buy menu easily, as all I had to do was patch out the conversion. Could EA do this across the whole game themselves if they wanted to? I imagine so. But then again, if I had billions of dollars, I probably couldn't be arsed either.
What's an object ID?
An object ID is just a number from 0–32,767 that the game assigns to each new object it places into a list, presumably starting at 0 and incrementing by 1 for the next object. It would appear that CC objects are given IDs first, which is why it was solely Maxis objects becoming unselectable after passing the limit.
Sims and objects are stored in separate lists, but I believe they both contribute to the overall limit. My single piece of evidence for this is that I experimented switching between several hoods and observed that the IDs of objects in the Build/Buy catalogue fluctuated across them. Objects in hoods with subhoods attached had higher IDs than in those without.
What was causing the Build/Buy menu crashes?
The same thing I explained in my original post (the game trying to access null pointers), except the creation of these null pointers was no accident and not the result of something going wrong.
The game merely checks whether the ID for the object it is looking at is above 32,767, and if it is, it deliberately sets the pointer to its address to 0. This would be fine, if it didn't then try and access this nullified pointer immediately afterwards!
I'll cut Maxis some slack here, because surely no one would be crazy enough to want more than 32,767 objects in their game, right guys? How could they ever have predicted such a scenario? (2004 was a simpler time).
Wait, so you were wrong about there not being an object limit? Not so cocky now, are you?
Whoa there, cowboy — hold your horses. If I may direct your attention to this excerpt of an email I sent to @teaaddictyt on the 22nd of April 2026 at 13:42 BST:
As you can see, I was right all along!!!
In my defence though, we thought the crashing was the only thing we had to solve, which is why I missed the completely obvious 16-bit conversion that was occurring within the functions I patched. Unfortunately, I am only human, but I understand if you want to destroy all the spockthewok posters I know you have hanging on your walls...
In light of these new findings, if you want to hear my updated opinion on the existence of the object limit, watch this video.
Is your patch useless?
Yes, but also no. It's not fixing the object limit (I should probably rename it tbh), but it is fixing those annoying crashes caused by it.
At the moment, not having the Build/Buy menu crash when you try and use it is the best we can do. It's up to you which you find more annoying — crashing, or not being able to buy x number of objects in the catalogue. Like the 4GB memory limit, this is going to be an additional constraint we'll have to learn to accept :/
Another alternative would be to join me and the 12 other weirdos who play with no CC, and never have to worry about any of this. No? Oh well, it was worth a try...
Will you ever actually fix the object limit?
If it's even possible without the source code, then not by myself, no.
Because of the number of core areas of the game that would need patching, I don't trust myself not to miss something and have the game explode. Unless someone wants to assemble a modding strike force to try and tackle the issue as a team over several months, I'm not touching it with a 10-foot pole (for your safety and for mine).
Should Maxis go on trial at the Hague for crimes against humanity?
Probably.
Anyway, that's all from me, apologies for the false hope :( One small positive is that I did manage to map out a reasonably large chunk of the game's code while I was frantically searching for solutions, which should make my life easier when looking at your requests. I feel like I need to successfully complete some of them now to make up for this dud!
Will
(Thank god I didn't look at this for my dissertation, I would have failed my degree).
Hi! Yeah, it's been awhile! Finally got the motivation to finish these and I hope you like them. Please let me know if issues. I'm slowly working through EP21 so... we'll see how long that takes me. Funnily enough, Single French Braid has been done since end of Oct 2025 because @lordcrumps is a huge Lara Croft fan, I wanted to make it for him lol
I just read the thesis and while I didn’t understand all of the words and technical things, this is sooooo cool and it was such a good read. Will is fucking awesome!!!
I fell in love with these 4t2 conversions by @tvickiesims at first sight and just had to make functional versions.
When your sim manages to catch butterflies or fireflies, they can be moved from the jar to this habitat. Insects housed in the habitat will stay alive; if the habitat is outdoors, they will hibernate if the temperature drops below freezing.
Each habitat can house 3 batches of butterflies and 3 batches of fireflies, counted separately. You can make space for new batches by releasing the insects from the habitat.
The caterpillar incubator provides an alternate way to get butterflies. Stocking the incubator costs §18, after which you can watch the caterpillars evolve into adult butterflies over the following days.
Be cautious about leaving adult butterflies in the incubator, as they won't survive there forever. The butterflies can be either moved to a habitat or released into the wild.
If an incubator is outdoors and the temperature drops below freezing, the metamorphosis will stop progressing, unless it's already finished, in which case the adult butterflies will die.
Sims can view occupied incubators and habitats, autonomously too. Cats might find them interesting as well. About everything gives nature enthusiasm, and all interactions are available children up.
🦋 Download (SFS) (alternate)
The files are compressed. Requires Pets and Seasons. The incubator won't work if you don't have the habitat in your downloads as well.
The habitat is a global mod that includes overrides for the bug jar and will conflict with other mods that alter the same resources. I haven't found anything that conflicts but as always, run HCDU to be sure. These can be used alongside Vickie's original conversions.
Many thanks to Vickie for letting me use her gorgeous conversions, and to @gummilutt for the help with testing!
These recolors are repo'd to the Basegame newspaper and will pick up any defaults you have, preview uses this default from @episims. The Meaning of Fruit is a lot smaller than the newspaper but these could be mock up for your newsrooms
I edited three of these functional junk piles to act more like Ambitions junk from Sims 3.
Sims can now root for furniture from the junk piles!
You can rummage several times. They may not find anything!
It's the same code for Bigfoot bringing furniture home from work.
If the Sim is rummaging on a community lot, the item is placed into their inventory. If the Sim is rummaging at home, the item will appear on the ground.
New dialog included. Also, Sim's hygiene will decrease each time they rummage.
Hope these are fun!
Happy Simming!

Made it for myself, I might as well share. If there's something I've missed please let me know.

Durable, inexpensive, backed with wholesome, fire-resistant asbestos... what can't be said of linoleum? Suitable for kitchens, bathrooms, dens, rumpus rooms, mudrooms, institutional settings: the possibilities are endless.
When I saw @witchzenkasims' TS4 linoleums (published more than 8 years ago) I had to have them. Some are refreshingly mod, some are impressively funky, some seem most appropriate for the parish hall of an exceptionally un-cool Lutheran church (Wisconsin Synod). $2/unit, under linoleums. Number 18 is the famous Armstrong 5352, introduced in 1932 and in production on and off to this day. Swatch included.
