Minerva bounded up, peering over the shoulder of Poppy.

"Are you actually doing lines, Poppy?"

"It's what we're supposed to be doing."

"Binns is asleep", Minerva pointed at the ghost sitting at the desk at the front of the room, "And even if he wasn't, he wouldn't notice or care about what we're doing."

Poppy glanced up at Minerva for a moment before turning back to her parchment, "Still. We got detention for a reason."

Minerva scoffed, "We didn't do anything! Dorea's just a gimlet and told on us for nothing!"

"You pushed Crabbe in the lake and made a current so he couldn't climb out", Fleamont countered from beside Poppy.

"Oh, shut your gob, Monty", Minerva huffed.

"Crabbe deserved it", Euphemia grinned up at Minerva, "I don't see why we should get in trouble for ridding the world of people like him."

"Exactly!" Minerva fell back into her seat, arm wrapping around Euphemia's shoulders, "He's disgusting!"

"He could've drowned!" Poppy turned around, "Seriously, you went too far."

"Oh, please", Minerva leaned back, "He was in the water for less than five minutes before Dumbledore came over."

"And", Euphemia leaned forwards, "he was just floating with ease, it's not like he doesn't know how to swim."

"Mia", Fleamont looked to her.

Euphemia looked back and gave him a mock pout in response.

Fleamont turned back around to face the front.

"Oh come on, Monty, it was a joke! You're not really annoyed are you?"

Minerva stood up, "Ah, who cares, he's a wee sap."

"He's not", Euphemia went to defend him.

"Let's leave", she annouced to the room.

"What?"

"We can't leave!"

"Window!"

The four students turned to the back of the room, staring as Rolanda Hooch lifted her legs off the desk in front of her.

She pulled a piece of liquorice out of her mouth, "We should go out the window."

"We're on the third floor", Minerva replied.

Rolanda shrugged and rushed over to the window.

"She's insane", Fleamont stared at her.

"Accio broomstick", Rolanda muttered.

"Will that work?" Poppy had finally put her quill down.

A broomstick came whizzing through the air a moment later, landing firmly in Rolanda's outstretched hand.

Rolanda turned to others, "Are you lot coming?"

Minerva grinned, rushing over the window.

Poppy glanced to Fleamont, "We really shouldn't be leaving."

Fleamont nodded in agreement but caught eyes with Euphemia as she made her way to the window. Euphemia gave him a small smile.

Fleamont blushed slightly and clumsily got up to follow.

Rolanda had flown down to the ground and now Euphemia and Fleamont climbed out of the window, one after the after, to fly down together.

Minerva glanced back into the classroom.

WLW HP Fic Recs - Early 2025

I am in a bit of a slump this week so I felt like reccing some amazing F/F fics I have read so far in 2025 (Jan to Mar) alphabetical by title (ignores a or the) 🤍 = my brief squee/comments Word counts are rounded up/down

⭐ Definitely Better by teh_kris_eh 💕 Katie/Alicia || M || 2.5 words After spending the past decade in Canada playing for the Haileybury Hammers, Katie realised she's finally ready to go home. Turns out that being traded to the Appleby Arrows was the perfect opportunity she'd been waiting for, in more ways than one. 🤍 One thing I love more than Friends to Lovers is PINING reunion of Friends to Lovers. Having Katie and Alicia reunite and re-explore their feelings was just delish. The characterisation are characters! The world and team is really believable, and Katie's renewed feelings are so sincere. I also love the steaminess.

⭐ quandaries of a quiet kind by alpacas in snow (alpacasinsnow) 💕 Minerva/Poppy || M || 2 words Depending on what time of day you asked her, Poppy would describe Minerva as either: the Lion, the Witch, or the Death of Me. Also depending on the time of day, Poppy would say so with: a smile, a whisper, or barely contained terror from the quidditch stands. Unfortunately, Minerva wasn’t quite aware that she was on track to give Poppy a heart attack at the bright young age of seventeen. 🤍 Young Poppyscotch! It's so full of beautiful sexual tension, and I lovethe characterisations of Poppy and Minerva! Minerva is a Quidditch player and they get frisky in the locker rooms 💛 

⭐ The Reunion by DayDreamingFoxglove @daydreamingfoxglove 💕 Hermione/Pansy || T || 1.5 words It is unnamable and unbecoming how Pansy forgets herself. How she lets little details go, even when it all isn’t perfection. How she no longer fusses or fawns to uphold Pureblood respectability. How she lets herself prance around Cho’s flat in nothing but a silk blouse so utterly disheveled and debauched. 🤍I loved the kiss in this one, the whole fic was adorable. So much romantic imagery, and PINING, my favourite tag in the world. ⭐ Spoken Through Moves by MoonriverFox @moonriverfox 💕 Millicent/Ginny || T || 2.5k words Mills let Ginny believe a lie—an easy, convenient distraction to keep her from clocking the truth. Only, the lie started to require a performance Mills wasn’t sure she wanted to keep up. 🤍 The perfect charaterisation of Millicent mixed with sublime pining and so many lovely moments between these two Quidditch players 💛 They're such a sweet pairing! This fic really made me appreciate Millicent more. ⭐ Teacups & Tankards by Schmem_14 @schmem14 💕 Madam Puddifoot/Madam Rosmerta || M || 9k words Bea and Ros are best friends who learn love and trust as they suffer loss and heartbreak during the Second Wizarding War. 🤍 I'm just a sucker for friends to lovers. The way Rosmerta and Bea's relationship is developed throughout the war, with their characters fleshed out more and so much sweetness...! The ending was so satisfying and I loved the whole story of it. (yes reccing again heehee)

⭐ there's a strange exhilaration (in such total detestation) by multiimoments @multiimoments 💕 Alice/Narcissa || T || 2.5k words Alice Fortescue thinks Narcissa Black is uptight. Narcissa Black thinks Alice Fortescue is uncouth. The only thing they can agree on is their hatred for each other. But what if there’s something less hostile simmering beneath the surface of their rivalry? 🤍 It's a Marauder's era Rivals to Lovers story and it's so fun! Their dynamic was so cute and Alice's personality is grand 💛 It's playful and sweet and ends without suggestion of any darkness on the horizon, so HEA AU style.

⭐ Unnamable by JinRoseMoon @jinrosemoon 💕 Cho/Pansy || T || 600 words It is unnamable and unbecoming how Pansy forgets herself. How she lets little details go, even when it all isn’t perfection. How she no longer fusses or fawns to uphold Pureblood respectability. How she lets herself prance around Cho’s flat in nothing but a silk blouse so utterly disheveled and debauched. 🤍  I loooved the theme of them sharing Lunar New Year together, it's so special 💛 I totally relate to creating new holiday traditions with friends when away from family. They are so sweet.

⭐ The Walls Watch Us by SiobhanHazel (me!) 💕 Andromeda/Hermione || E || 4.5k words When Hermione, working for the Department of Magical Dwellings and Structures, helps Harry transfer 12 Grimmauld Place to Andromeda Tonks, she and Andromeda form a natural friendship. But as their feelings bloom, the house seems less and less welcoming—resisting the disowned Black sister and her grandson in ways neither of them expected... 🤍 It was really fun writing a Sentient House and having Hermione and Andromeda brought together through the happenings at 12 Grimmauld. (might as well add my own fic to the list hee hee)

⭐ with her arms out like an angel by xrvnge 💕 Astoria/Ginny || T || 2.5k words The wedding is tonight. Ginny's wearing white, Astoria's wearing black. Their love, their future, and their infinity will soon be etched into the stone fabric of fate. Zinnia — Everlasting Friendship 🤍 Gird your heart my readers! But this language of flowers fic is sooo touching, laced with poetic artistry and brimming with meaning. (Tragedy & MCD Warning - well, it is Astoria)

⭐You First by briarandbone @briarandbone 💕 Pansy/Ginny || M || 2.5k words Ginny and Pansy are stuck on a team-building retreat, where the only thing more awkward than their rivalry is their undeniable chemistry. Between disastrous rowboats, trust falls gone wrong, and more awkward moments than they care to admit, they might just find out they have more in common than they realise. 🤍 GET YOUR TISSUES it's happy tears time. This fic has claimed a lil spot in my brain. This was brilliant, well paced, amusing and lovely and romantic!
