#2247 - Porella sp. - Scalewort

The diversity of the epiphytes where-ever conditions were damp enough was amazing - I mean, there's at LEAST three other species in this photo alone. And I didn't get any usable photos of the others. *sigh*

Porella is a widespread genus of leafy liverwort, with between 84 to 150 species depending who you listen to. The genus are common epiphytes in temperate areas, and have lobed leaves with a large upper lobe and small lower lobe. Apparently it's important to check the underside of liverwort fronds for supplementary leaves.

on seasonally dry karst conglomerate., This species is fairly large from what i’ve seen in scaleworts; however, this isn’t the best photo due to It’s color is much more sepia/chlorotic looking for some reason: which could be from a number of winter associated stresses, or it could be nutrient deficit, or it could be something else entirely or many combinations. When usually seen the microphylls are more fanned out, darker green, with new growth a bit lighter in color with larger apical thallus microphyll.

Note: My “Trailside Guide to Mosses and Liverworts of the Cherokee National Forest” came in today which has much more liverwort information than what I currently have which mostly deals with Bryophytes and barely touches the liverworts and hornworts. Definitely would recommend.

mamma mia l’altro giorno, cioè sabato, che ero tornata dalla campagna di mio padre per andare a lavoro, sono passata dalla stazione e ci stavano tutti pischelli e pischellette queer (anche se ci stava un tempo demmerda) per il gay pride, mi era palesemente venuto il ciclo appena scesa dal treno e facevo cacarissimo e in mezzo alla folla mi vedo una raga trpp bll per cui ho avuto una super super cotta (livello: me la sognavo la notte), che quando la vedevo da quanto mi piaceva mi veniva da sbrattare e niente mi sentivo low-key il cuore a mille + facevo la dura CON ME STESSA (vbb) illudendomi che non vorrei uscirci no no (tanto non capiterà MAI sigh) e che tanto ormai mi è passata, è vero eh però lei super super bella omg fatti stringere cocorita del mio cuor

(e invece sono corsa a prendere il bus con il cappuccio calato in testa come un emo kid mancato sanguinante, pregando per tutto il tragitto di non macchiarmi i pantaloni, nice)
