And The Winner Is…
Hayley R. from San Francisco, CA.
What is Hayley's favorite beauty product? "First Aid Beauty's under eye roller. It depuffs [your eyes] and looks great under makeup!"
What Hayley won at Poshly: BIOEFFECT's EGF Serum
Bioeffect EGF is not your everyday skin serum. This holy grail product went through 10 years of development in Iceland, and garnered numerous kudos in European mags like Elle, Harper's Bazaar, Marie Claire and Vogue. The secret is in the acronym! "EGF" stands for Epidermal Growth Factor, a super specialized protein. The discovery of EGF back in the '80s was so important that the scientists were awarded the Nobel Peace Prize in Medicine!
And The Winner Is…
Gina T. from Berkeley, CA.
What Gina won: Block Island Organics Mineral Sunscreen SPF 16
Block Island, "the smallest town in the smallest state," has a spa called Koru Eco Spa which believes in the motto, "Live a more chemical-free life." When the company noticed a disparate amount of non-toxic beauty products—and sunscreens, in particular—it took action by creating Block Island Organics, an eco-friendly line of skincare products. B.I. Organics features mineral sunscreens and vegan formulas, all with a sun-savvy focus of protecting skin against UVA and UVB rays. And with a travel-friendly 2 oz container (plus a keychain!), this skincare product won't hold you up in the security lines at the airport. These convenient sunscreens cost $22, and can be purchased on their website.
Gina's favorite beauty service: "A pedicure is my favorite treat, because it leaves me feeling refreshed and looking fly."
We hope Gina loves the product! Interested in suncare products? Poshly has more! Check out our giveaway for Hampton Sun's Hydrating Aloe Vera Continuous Mist.
Nair Gets Us Out of Hairy Situations
With summertime upon us, many women are thinking about body hair, or rather how to get rid of it! Since ancient times, hair removal has been a beauty ritual, although which body hair is removed has changed over time. In Ancient Greece, Egypt, and Middle East, women often removed all body hair except their eyebrows. According to History Undressed, Egyptian women even removed their head hair. In Ancient Rome, hair removal was viewed as a sign of affluence and those women who could afford to do it would use razors, tweezers, creams, or even pumice stones—ouch!
Fast-forward to Elizabethan Europe: women did not remove body hair but instead removed their eyebrows. (That’s getting a bit of a resurgence; check out Tumblr photos of the bleached brow trend). In America, hair removal did not become popular until around 1920. More than ever women were starting to expose body parts that had previously been covered up, i.e. ankles and armpits! History Undressed recounts that the first female razor was introduced in 1915, the same year Harper’s Bazaar was the first mag to feature a cover model with a sleeveless dress... and hairless armpits.
