The Whispers of Stars and Flames | Wodensfang POV | A HTTYD Books Fanfic

Summary:
"I am old, older than any dragon ought to be, and my memory stretches farther than the distance between the City of Tomorrow and the Mainland; as such, I shall tell you what I can remember, for it is a story of fire and friendship, of pride and regret, of the Boy who became my Bond-Brother and the world that fell because of my complacency."
Wodensfang tells the tale of his connection to Three Hiccups, and how each meeting changed history, for good or for ill. As well as his fated clash with Grimbeard the Ghastly, which would end in the eventual "rise" and fall of the Kingdom of the Wilderwest. Come! Sit down and listen to this old dragon's tale.

Sorry for the hiatus, everyone. I had planned on posting a couple of fanfics for New Years but got derailed from bad weather. And the past 3 weeks has been me suffering from the nasty barometric pressure and the bad weather and cold temps as a result. January was NOT a good month for me. So I'm a little frustrated that I didn't get anything written or finished last month, but I'll work on them now.
I just finished this one. Another Wodensfang fanfic, as promised.
Because Wodensfang seems like a masterful weaver of stories to me, I decided to make his narration more metaphoric and figurative in nature to give the story another layer of depth. I wanted to also have him explain his story between the figures of history whom we know of. I personally believe based on his story to Hiccup in Books 9 and 11 (and the Witch's story in Book 8) that after his argument with Speedifast (Grimbeard), Wodensfang left, but years later, upon learning of the existence of Hiccup the Second, he had indirect influence in the boy's growth, teaching him the stories of the past, giving him guidance, and, hoping to change Grimbeard and bring the Kingdom back to its original founding principles, encouraged him to lead a peaceful protest to denounce slavery of Man and Dragon. However, Wodensfang underestimated the strength of the Curse that was upon Grimbeard, and the extent of Thugheart's Jealousy and Greed and Lust for Power that led him to deceive Grimbeard and bring about the Death of Hiccup the Second, presumptuously ending Wodensfang's hopes and Furious' bond and friendship with both the Boy and with Wodensfang.
What I find interesting is that nobody has blamed Thugheart for Hiccup the Second's death. Furious instead blames it on all of Humankind, and Wodensfang seems to blame it on Grimbeard and the Curses he had brought upon himself, which manifested this tragic result. You could even say that Furious inherited Merciless' Crusade against the Humans, as both Merciless and Furious share the same hatred. However, it must be said that their motives for doing so are completely different, as both Merciless and Furious have both shared their reasons for attacking Humans. (See Books 1 and 8, respectively, for their views).
In fact, I might just write a fanfic about this, now that I think about it.
I also thought that having Wodensfang go full circle, from the First Hiccup to the Fourth Hiccup, was a nice ending to the story. What do you think?
Long Live the Wilderwest!
