I cannot believe there’s no fic exploring book 11 bad end where jason in fact loses the box he put himself in. give me the team having to deal with an extremely confused newborn protogod hegemon until the eventual jason re-emergence through extreme hard work. rebuilding a whole guy from scratch. jason created a whole universe to embody himself though this is just like that except harder because a human is more complicated than a solar system

After months of being cooped up on the journey to Earth, everyone’s nerves were a little frayed despite their eventful arrival. Clive and Jason were bickering in the cloud palace again. And for once, Zara couldn’t squash her comment. It was just so obvious. “Will you two just fuck already?”

“What?” Their unison response was almost as comical as the way they danced around each other. She gave them a pointed look. Jason looked to Belinda who shrugged with a twist of her lips in sad agreement.

Turning back to her, Jason appealed to Zara, “I thought we had a thing?” He gestured back and forth between himself and Zara.

She sighed. “You can have more than one thing, Jason. You of all people know that. You’ve got more things than you can juggle most of the time.”

The utter betrayal running across his face would’ve been comical if he didn’t look like he actually meant it this time.

“Clive’s only love is to the system.”

Eva and Grace’s dynamic is so important to me. They’re in love platonically. Like, that’s not a common dynamic. She put the way he likes his coffee into the ship’s computer. He follows her around like a puppy. In the book, she cracks jokes with him and him only. She cares about his opinion. He was the only one she asked about the coma gene, wondering if it was worth it.

He’s her best friend, and she doesn’t even know it. They’re so close, that in the book, people think they’re sleeping together, and poor Grace is so confused because he thought that was his platonic work wife, wdym people think we’re sleeping together, that’s my person that I crack jokes with and then she glares at me because they’re not funny.

She’s softer with him than anybody else and is only ever vulnerable around him. We see in the movie, he’s the only one who ever gets her to smile, and sometimes even laugh, and then she serenades all of them, but mainly him, and he stares at her with those big, shiny eyes so lovingly, and she points at him when she sings, “everything’s gonna be alright”, and then she gives him those eyes, so loving.

And then she’s trying to stop herself from crying when she’s sending him away because, against her will, he’s become her person, and somewhere along the way, she’s become his, and they will have forever ended this relationship on bad terms, and nothing can fix that.

It’s a platonic tragedy. It’s a platonic love story. This is something we don’t get often, or, like, ever, and it’s deep and it’s tragic and it’s sad.

But even after, Eva’s still taking care of him. Packing clothes she knew would bring him comfort. Programming the ship to know how he likes his coffee. And Grace is still watching out for her, speaking to her directly in his video logs, with that same lopsided smile he used to throw her way.

He uses Rocky’s sign for goodbye, and she uses it back, and how did this book and movie give us such a deep platonic friendship because, guys, this NEVER HAPPENS.

okay, i won't lie and say i haven't been contemplating jason and dominion for a while, but @kathrynalexao3 you made me think about it more practically. and i think that my ideal setting for them really is book 12. for the obvious reasons of jason understanding dominion's nature better and being wiling to hang out, and the two just being "closer" now that they're more like peers, but mostly i think bc the driving force of their dynamic is dominion's interest in jason. and i think specifically in a D/S scenario what interests me is that dominion is still what he is and what he would get out of that kind of scenario is solely bringing out jason's inner hegemon and making it surface. after all, dominion isn't interested in wielding power, he's interested in seeing power be wielded. and book 12 jason just has... so much more to bring out compared to earlier books lol. and he's restraining himself more tightly than ever because he's conscious of how much power he holds so him getting coaxed into letting it loose also has more impact i think. the more i think about it actually, the more i'm like, the only way i can really think of for jason to semi-plausibly agree to doing something like this other than just handwaving it is, after their conversation in rexion, dominion being like hey. if you're so worried about it (your tyrannical side). why don't we Check it and see how bad it is. since we can do that, because i am the god of That. and then it's a metaphysical, metaphorical thing based on souls and authority, but also basically a weird version of the aura sex jason had with dawn. and obviously i think dominion would come out of it much, much more satisfied than jason LOL jason would just be like "so we checked and the answer is it's pretty bad actually."
