Idk how much you've talked about it already but, how does Steven take to becoming more independent on earth? What does it look like for him? I guess how he adjusts to being separated from Star.
Aaaa I love this question!
Steven takes to independence on Earth positively! He loves the Earth, it's the first time in his life that he's been surrounded by creatures like himself, and that improves his mental health very much. The planet gives him a sense of belonging he never had on Homeworld, where everything is designed for Gemkind. Being among humankind and Earthlings in general is an adjustment, but he happily embraces it.
There is a kind of culture shock, though. Earth operates completely different from Homeworld, with its weather, customs, technology, etc. That change was overwhelming and confusing at first, but his enthusiasm didn't waver!
However, no matter how absorbed he became, somewhere in his head, he always found himself wondering what Star would think of Earth- anything from the smallest, seemingly insignificant Earth quirks to the more profound things, such as the great expanse of the ocean and Cookie Cats.
Of course, the separation from Star has its consequences. At first, the effects are subtle- an achiness spreading from his stomach, common cold symptoms— stuff he's used to experiencing on and off. Over time, they become more severe to the point that he's bedridden, and the physical toll of being so far from Star threatens his life. The innate need to be connected with his gem half becomes severe, and his love for the Earth can't protect him from it.
By the time he permanently moves to the Earth (about 3-4 years after his first visit) and is truly independent, a medication had been developed with the help of Star's diamond essence, human pharmacology (thanks to Dr Maheswaran), and gem technology. The medication allows him to function for longer periods without Star's presence- of course, visits from the gem half are good for his health too.
AND Star takes long vacations on Earth whenever he gets the chance, so Steven never has to miss him for long :333
I feel like drawing my oddcrura heals a part of my soul.
Here I drew a new character I came up with while trying to decide the roles within a pack, she’s an oracle. And also probably the first elderly person I ever drew I think, can’t believe it took me this long but I think I made her look old and not just a young person with wrinkles.
Her name is Opal, and she’s missing a toe from frost bite on a snowy pilgrimage. She’s admiring her staff before she retires and hands it off to her most recent apprentice.
