More The Force Awakens (yessssss) Reylo fic recs by YOU!

Look, okay. Here's the hard truth: A lot of us wish the series was cancelled after The Force Awakens because what in the actual hell was all that nonsense that followed? Anyway, I was in the mood for TFA or TFA-like fics and my readers responded!! I received TLJ and TRoS fics that are actually quite good, so those will be in their own post, whereas the TFA lists will be like... 3 separate posts lol. Thank you everyone for contributing! This is almost entirely a crowd-sourced fic rec list from one of my other posts.

Just in time for reading season (keep an eye on @fanfic-reading-challenge for this and next year’s challenges!) and revisiting some of the best fics from or relating to one of the three sequel trilogy fiilms. There are a couple that delve into the OT and PT but are rare, and there are a few ships other than Reylo, which will be clearly marked, don’t worry!

Fics will be alphabetized by story name, and may need to be broken into a couple posts, which I’ll link together here at a later point.

The point of my fic rec requests were for that old-school, fight-me bro. proud to be a reylo feeling and the sigh we all inevitably let out. There was just something so magical about TFA stories, really….

“Hmm. So you do have feelings.” - for Kylux >:3c

The pain is what re-enters his awareness first. It’s an inescapable presence, smothering him beneath it like a pillow pressed over his face. Yet there is a second presence, as all-consuming as the first and it fills his senses before he can even begin to question where he is or what’s happened.

Hux.

When Kylo’s vision clears, he can see the general sitting at his bedside—for he is in a bed, it would seem—his attention devoted entirely to the datapad in his hands. His greatcoat is draped over the back of his chair but that’s the extent of his state of undress. His uniform is as crisp and clean as ever, his hair parted neatly to the side as it always is, his face clean-shaven as usual. But from the dark circles beneath his eyes and the uncollected empty cups on the table beside him, Kylo thinks he must have been there for some time. Longer, he thinks, than it would seem at first glance.

“Ah, the great Kylo Ren deigns to once again grace us with his presence,” Hux drones boredly without looking up from his work.

“Where are we?” Kylo rasps, finding his throat dry and his voice scratchy with disuse.

“Supreme Leader Snoke’s ship,” Hux says. “I collected you from the defeated heap you’d been left in by that traitor and the scavenger girl and brought you onboard, as our Supreme Leader requested.”

“Collected me as your pet project imploded around you?” Kylo grunts as he moves to sit up.

Hux’s light eyes cut to him sharply. As usual, he can give it, but he can’t take it. But then the same could be said of Kylo so perhaps that’s why they can never seem to be rid of one another.

“As you might imagine,” Hux says tightly as he returns to his datapad, “neither of us are in Snoke’s good graces at the moment.”

Ah. So Hux is hiding, then.

“Hiding from him here won’t do you any good,” Kylo comments, his eyes roving around the private room. It’s dark in its furnishings, as all First Order fleet rooms are, but clearly not in the medbay. Something which Kylo finds… odd. “Why am I not in medical?”

He senses a sudden spike of emotion from Hux. Anxiety and embarrassment flurrying to cover something else—concern.

“It had occurred to me that the crew might find it demoralizing to see you in… the state you’re in,” Hux says carefully. He clears his throat primly, straightening his posture even further, if possible. (Kylo has never seen the man slouch and he’s not sure Hux is even capable of the action.) “However much I may not wish to admit it, the crew derives a sort of strength from your presence. From the power that you wield. Seeing you struck down would be difficult for you to recover from and lead to unease among the ranks. I thought it best to keep you secluded to your chambers with access restricted to meddroids at hours outside peak foot traffic from the crew.”

Kylo squints at Hux. “…were you worried about me?”

Hux makes a noise like he’s just been Force choked, color rising high on his cheekbones as his lips press together into a thin, tight line. “Don’t be absurd. I merely chose the best course of action regarding the future of the First Order.”

He didn’t, though. Kylo closes his eyes, sensing the indignation and anxiety rolling off of Hux like a tidal wave in a bid to drown out that speck of concern surfing the calmer waters behind it. But bits and pieces of memory begin to resurface, allowing him to part through the tidal wave before him. He can feel the chill of his body lying in the snow. He hears the muffled sound of shouting. He feels the press of Hux’s hands against the bleeding wound in his side, sees the bright red of his hair against the frozen landscape like a flaming beacon, drawing his attention as a flame would a moth.

“Hmm,” Kylo says under his breath. “So you do have feelings.”

“I most certainly do not,” Hux informs him, the crease in his brow telling Kylo that the mere implication offends him. “You’re delirious. Stop bothering me and go back to sleep. Now.”

“You think our best option to please Snoke is by presenting a united front,” Kylo says suddenly.

Hux narrows his eyes. “That’s not an opinion, it’s fact. Our best chance to recover from this setback is to combine forces. Which we might be able to do if you could stand to be agreeable for any prolonged period of time.”

“Right, because I’m the one who’s not agreeable,” Kylo says, hissing in pain as he tries to prop himself up in bed.

With a heavily put-upon sigh, Hux rises from his seat and punches a few buttons in a nearby wall panel, raising the incline of the bed so that Kylo can sit up without exerting himself. The general then snatches a glass of water off the side table and thrusts it into Kylo’s hand.

“Drink that and stop moving,” Hux says crisply, resuming his seat and focusing again on his datapad.

Kylo, to his own surprise, does as he’s told. Lying back against the pillows, he watches as Hux continues to work in silence, paying Kylo no further attention. But a casual scan of the general’s thoughts reveals that Kylo is very much still present in them. It’s not as though Hux is ever far from Kylo’s thoughts either, for better or for worse. Usually worse. He’d assumed the “better” portion had been left behind after their first meeting, when Hux had delivered Kylo to his new Master for their first face-to-face meeting, but that may not be the case. Perhaps they’d merely needed to be knocked down to the same level for the chance to see eye to eye again.

“We can try it,” Kylo says. “The united front thing.”

“I am pleased beyond measure,” Hux drawls sarcastically.

(Kylo doesn’t mention that he can sense that Hux actually means it.)

The Watering Hole Pilot Episode: Three is Not a Crowd

(aka Cheers!... In!!… Space!!!)

Finnreylo fan fic for the @finnreylopositive double prompt: CHEERS!. An AU for the old American sitcom Cheers. Post TFA canonverse in which Ben Solo never went to the dark side but clearly other things happened as expected because both Finn and Rey are here.

Set in The Watering Hole, the most popular bar in the military complex on Coruscant, frequented by a likable gang of pilots and misfits. In our pilot episode, the bar’s three employees need to work through a misunderstanding and make some decisions about their relationship.

Rose and Poe trade a glance as Finn walks quickly out of the office, sets down the datapad in his hand, and begins vigorously wiping down the counter at the bar across the street from the Galactic Republic’s main military complex on Coruscant. They can tell something’s bothering The Watering Hole’s assistant bartender. The former stormtrooper is one of the most popular people in military circles; everyone was shocked when he decided to work at the bar instead of joining as a soldier, but no one could blame him. And the work definitely suits him. So if he’s not smiling, or chatty, or both, that’s a definite sign that something is wrong with Finn.

“What's up, man?” Poe asks before he takes another swallow of ale.

Finn ignores him and wipes the counter even more aggressively.

Rose reaches out past her own glass and catches him by the wrist. He stops moving and gives her a side eye.

“Come on, man,” she says. “You are the most transparent person and we can tell when there’s something wrong. So you can stand here and make us keep bugging you, or you can just tell us what’s up.”

He pulls his hand away, drops the rag back into the bucket under the bar, and sighs.

“Okay, fine, I’ll tell you.”

Leia has become a fortress, a calm exterior mercifully blocking the extent of her rage and heartache from the world.

She remembers the moment she felt Han’s death reverberate through her -- the same abrupt, forceful feeling as taking off in the Falcon, she realizes later -- even though she couldn’t remember the moments after; a maelstrom of emotion lifting only with the sound of shattering glass. She’d found herself in her quarters, hands shaking and throat hoarse. On the floor broken glass was scattered amongst the crumbled remains of a flower.

It had been the only flower Han had ever given her after their marriage, and it was the only flower that had ever mattered. She had never figured out the meaning behind the gift -- he’d given it to her after their son’s birth, but whether it was a thank-you or an apology for having been light years away, she’d never asked -- but its providence was purely Han.

There had been a peculiar species of flower on Alderaan with inky black petals speckled with white like the cosmos itself, and with a stem and leaves such a bright shade of yellow that they’d appeared to be suns bursting from the ground. She’d loved those flowers, and Han had somehow found one, dried and perfectly preserved between two panes of glass.

And now it was dust.

She had swept it away with dry eyes, the delicate dried petals crumbling when she’d attempted to save a sunburst-leaf, and she’d known. She’d known.

She has nothing left.

The children speak quietly around her. They become a blur of Poe’s worried eyes and Rey’s delicate loneliness, of the pilots who soften their brashness around her as if dimming their own light might make hers brighten, of her crew who try to pretend like everything is the same when nothing is, when nothing ever shall be, when truly nothing remains to her.

No one ever speaks the words to her. No one ever says, “Your son killed your husband.” No one ever says, “Your son is dead.” If anyone speaks of it at all, it’s a fleeting whisper, it’s pretty words hiding the ugly truth. Sacrifice. Betrayal.

Succumbing.

Leia thinks that if she ever did those things, if she ever committed a sacrifice, if she ever betrayed what they believe their general to be, if she ever truly succumbed to the rage that explodes within her…

She thinks the universe itself might be ripped asunder.

So she holds tight to what her father -- her true father, blood be damned -- taught her, trying her best to quiet her rage through conventional means, through being good, by fighting the war and tearing her enemies down without allowing her blood to dictate who she becomes.

She sends Rey away, hoping the girl will find peace, hoping that she’ll find Luke and return him to her, so that she can have someone to cling to and scream at. Luke has always known how to weather her storms.

She throws herself more deeply into the Resistance, into tearing apart the First Order more thoroughly than they’d ever managed with the Empire, determined to not only destroy their army but also the infectious ideology that has slithered through the universe for far too long.

The thought of facing the thing that killed her son, the shell she imagines is filled with the same writhing, twisting tendrils of the darkness as Vader, is a thought she keeps locked away, a thought that brings her only heartache and blossoms of the guilt-rage that threatens to become all that’s left of her.

All that once brought her joy are now ashes. The wry smiles that Han would flash her after he’d done something he knew she would disapprove of, smiles she found she missed even more than his most charming ones because those were just for her. She can’t even think about the times she’d held her child in her arms, marveling at the delicate soft skin on his feet and the way his tiny hands had gripped her so tightly.

She can’t think on her happy memories, and if she focuses too long on the sad she can feel the walls of her fortress begin to crack and crumble.

The rage is all that’s safe for her to carry with her, and so she does, holding it within and letting it keep her back straight and her voice crisp and unshaken. She uses it, because without it…

Without it, she might become a shell, too.

And Leia will not allow anything to take this war from her. Not when there are still battles to be won, not when the enemy has not yet realized what they have created within her.

Leia is a fortress, and she will withstand this siege. She will win this war.

Ren sat up in bed, his back pressed against the cool, reinforced steel wall. He was too tired to flow-walk. He’d thought to meditate in the calm darkness of the quarters but the atmosphere dripped with Hux’s irritation. His anger brought to mind a swarm of Geonosians – the short, clipped sounds of their language, the hum of their wings as the hive moved as one. There was an order to it, but an outsider was unlikely to perceive that order.

Ren was an outsider.

“Fellow Resistance members,” Rey said proudly. “Today is a day of joy for me. I know many of you have gone on this journey with me, step by step through my pregnancy, excited and filled with hope at the coming of another Jedi -- at a new generation coming, providing a light in the darkness, and the hope of a future for us all. My child… my child has become a symbol, but she’s more than that. She’s more than you would ever realize.”

In which Kylo Ren and Rey join together in an effort to defeat the First Order and bring peace to the galaxy, all for the sake of a child -- their child. Rey fights with the Resistance, but Kylo... well, Kylo is risking everything to stay exactly where he is.

Poe had been at his wife's side since she had been brought back after the Resistance attack on Starkiller Base. The injury had been severe, though no one knew what happened on the planet.

(There had been whispers of a lightsaber battle. Which meant the scavenger girl had gotten her hands on one.)

Now, Breha was awake and he got a good look at the damage that been done. The bacta patch covering the long line down her face. The medic preparing to change it and check on the healing.

He shook his head and settled down in the chair beside her chair. "You don't have to hide it from me." A gloved hand took hers and brought it to his lips. "You know I don't care. If I get my hands on that girl, she's going to suffer."
