He doesn’t control his transformation, he stays human most of the time and only transforms when he or someone he loves is in danger
Basically a fight or flight response
Just a fun little concept I’ve been thinking about for a while now
We need someone to write an epic, apocalyptic fic that actually deals with the implications of snapping half the living creatures on Earth from existence. So…
Post apocalyptic Shrunkyclunks au via the endgame snap! Takes place after the snap and leads up to our heroes fighting to undo the damage and even after it's fixed. Bucky and Steve being some of the few to survive the rapidly changing environment (like oxygen and food scarcity) due to the serum.
How Steve and Bucky meet is up to the writer, but the idea is that after the Snap the world has gone to hell.
With a population drop so massive, mass amounts of crops are left unattended. As a result, prices for food briefly plummet due to surplus until it’s intentionally destroyed or rotted because of the economy. This results in a scenario similar to the great depression and the dust bowl.
Essentially, the snap destroys civilization and the global economy. Supply chains. Hospital workers. Mail delivery. All of the little things that make up our daily life are disrupted.
ON TOP OF THAT, with half of all living things snapped (including animals and plants) the oxygen levels plummet and carbon monoxide levels sky rocket. Those remaining have time because of what oxygen was left over but the ozone layer is wrecked and everyone starts to cook.
Since vehicles/other equipment were all left in operation after people disappeared, the levels of carbon increase quickly and start fires (on top of planes/trains/cars crashing).
There would be nothing left for the people who even came back. To make matters worse, reversing the snap ends up killing even more people. People who are brought back are dropped exactly where they disappeared from. Airplanes?? people on flights would have fallen to their death. Also buildings that were removed or abandoned in the years following the snap would have resulted in death as well when people reappeared in them
It would be a better death to be snapped then to be left behind.
In short, life after the Snap is a nightmare and even when the heroes find a way to undo it there are still repercussions.
Don’t forget to credit/tag if you use this idea, the ones who submitted this idea would love to read it!
In a world where teddy bears feast on humans in the streets during the night and where nobody is safe.... Murder Babes, they kick names and take ass. Or the other way around. Who knows.
putting my photoshop skills to good use making edits for the post-apocalyptic au because i need to indulge my obsession with these stupid ridiculous aesthetics (cullen screenshot credit)
hey i just wanted to let you know i posted the first chapter of the post apocalyptic au i'm taking a stab at. it's on ao3 at works/4621545/chapters/10535394 if you wanna give it a cursory read. this is just the first chapter so it's pretty short
Ahhh this is awesome!! I’m so honored that my ramblings inspired someone to actually put effort into writing a real thing (ノ◕ヮ◕)ノ*:・゚✧
okay one last post before i start my homework because i need to continue rambling about the post-apocalyptic au:
i was thinking about how to incorporate hawke/ the kirkwall gang into the au and i realized that hawke and their love interest on the run after the chantry explosion would fit reeeally well into a post-apocalyptic world— i mean, everyone outside of settlements is already going to be outcast wanderer types, so a couple extra fugitives wouldn’t stand out at all. also i’m really feeling a hawke sibling au with marian as garrett’s older sister.
i have yet to figure out how cullen’s lion comes into play, though. and clearly that’s the most important part of this au
i first talked about this au in this post if you want context for the following nonsense.
this is a pretty long post so it’s going under a cut. but yeah here’s basically everything i have so far about the world of this au!
also, tagging cloveoil and bearmerchant because you both were asking for more details :D
» the backstory
many hundreds of years ago, an apocalyptic event known as “the cataclysm” destroyed modern thedas and wiped out most of its population. the small percentage who survived and weren’t infected by the zombie-like “spawn disease” began reforming what they could of the old world. cars hooked up to brontos like carriages, street signs and license plates turned into armor and shields, bows replacing guns— slowly, the world turned back into a motley imitation of what it was in the days of old world legend, a world of dragons and magic and gods who walked among mortals.
factions formed, alliances were forged and broken, and after a few generations, most people stopped worrying about making things the way they had been, and focused instead on surviving in the world that they were born into. myths and religions of the old world were rewritten for the new one, full of danger and isolation and bloodthirsty spawn.
» the factions
the chantry: the biggest faction in thedas. led by the divine, they worship the prophet andraste, who was believed to have founded the first new civilization after the fall of the old world. they began peacefully, but after joining with the templars, they began expanding their land holdings and exerting more aggressive power over the other smaller factions. They have a tenuous alliance with the wardens, but are almost always unwilling to work with the "pagan" factions like the apostates and magisters.
the templars: they and the wardens are the most highly militarized groups in thedas. though initially an independent faction, they now function as basically the military arm of the chantry. their soldiers are known for being addicted to an injected stimulant called lyrium, or "the blue" colloquially. taken before fights, it greatly enhances their physical strength but also takes a toll on their physical and mental health in the long term.
the apostates: initially the name applied to any group that operates outside the chantry, the apostates are now a highly organized faction. they practice a variety of rituals to connect with old world gods, which are regarded as heretic by the chantry. many people who become disillusioned with the strictness of life under the chantry run away to join them.
the grey wardens: a neutral group of soldiers that operates outside the chantry to defend the citizens of the wasteland. the biggest threat besides starvation is the spawn, so the wardens willingly infect themselves with the illness so that they can control its spread and fight the spawn without fear. however, this means most wardens die very young, whether from their dangerous lifestyle or the infection itself.
the magisters: the most widely feared faction by outsiders. claiming to be descendants of the mythical “mages” of the old world, they practice mysterious and often bloody rituals to try and discover the lost secrets of magic. despite the fear and hatred that most people feel towards them, they are a largely neutral group that generally keeps to themselves unless attacked.
the underground: initially, the groups of people, primarily dwarves, who remained underground prior to the events of the so-called “cataclysm” that destroyed the old world. since then, people of all races have moved to these settlements, and they are some of the most in-tact and advanced cities in the current world. but because of the limited space that an underground civilization allows, they are hesitant to take in new members without good reason.
the arlathan: primarily composed of elves, these wanderers have no actual settlements or land, but rather travel around in small groups without an overarching government, unified only by a shared culture. many of the elven members claim heritage with the dalish elves of the old world.
the qunari: a group primarily centered in the north who follow a strict religious code and have a great distrust of outsiders, especially the chantry. because of the qunari’s gray skin, horns, and other supposedly “monstrous” attributes, the chantry claims that they were elves who were corrupted by the cataclysm many hundreds of years ago, while the magisters purport that they’re related to the dragons of old world legends.
the inquisition: a newly formed faction that few people know anything about yet.
