are you still doing this? top 5 moments in nyc (not just exclusive to the meetup) ;)
THERE ARE SO MANY! God, Kat, you make my life so hard. Since I already gushed about the meetup (ULTIMATE FAVE), I’ll focus on other joys.
Seeing Fun Home: Specifically the beginning of “Raincoat of Love,” when I first burst into tears. It was touch and go on whether we were going to make it to the performance, so I was already emotionally compromised, and then the show tore me apart in the best possible way.
The Lottery for Hedwig tickets at the Belasco. I’d had the process described to me several times, but I hadn’t realized that it would be so much fun. Even with more than 70 people vying for about 30 tickets, everyone was chill, and I wasn’t expecting anything as low-tech as a box, paper, and mini-pencils.
The sleepless apartment. On Saturday night, a whole slew of us were awake, drinking wine and talking in the common area. We compared adventures from the day, got more excited about the meet-up the next morning, and didn’t even notice that it was almost 3 in the morning.
Marie’s Crisis. This former theater kid was in heaven. Between the drunken Irishman (who wanted us to believe he was French), on the one hand and the exasperated piano player on the other, I could have stayed there all night. Many thanks to the people who kept me from doing just that.
The Long Grift. I could talk about Hedwig forever, but I think this number packed the biggest unexpected punch in person. Not only do you get Yitzak killing the song, but there’s Hedwig in the background slowly recovering from the previous scene. Breathtaking.
