Post-Run Snack
Do you ever see those ‘health-bloggers’ post their ‘post-run’ snacks and it’s like...an almond milk smoothie, or an over-easy egg with chives, or some hoity-toity half cup of fruit with a quarter teaspoon of peanut butter with the caption ‘Yum!’ or some shit like that?
I can’t stand those people.
That’s not a realistic snack. You think I’m going to take the time to drizzle half a teaspoon of honey onto perfectly chopped apples with exactly four almonds?
1. I’m allergic to apples. And almonds.
2. Have you ever tried to do anything neatly with honey? It turns into a sticky mess.
It really does bother me, though, to be honest. I’m in school for physical therapy. We’ve barely scraped the top of what happens to the body’s metabolism and it’s insanely complicated. It drives me bonkers to see unqualified online personalities giving advice to people about what to eat. Generalizations are fine, but a lot of people don’t fit the mold and need specialized advice for their bodies. Online health ‘experts’ are not always the way to go.
Anyway...moral of the story is, I am not a nutritionist, and I’m not spouting any advice I’m not qualified to give. I just did a couple mile run and I’m shmearing a banana with an unspecified amount of peanut butter and then eating some chocolate. And I will not Instagram it.
