do you have any tips on sourcing big pots (like ~30cm diameters) for repotting? I have quite a few yogurt containers, but at the rate my plants' roots are growing, they might get rootbound in 3 months. I did nab a few "left in the parking lot" pots before at Home Depots and such, but that's not a reliable sourcing method I think lol
I do find most of my bigger pots left by the trash, I think some can be found in 'buy nothing' or 'sharing is caring' groups on facebook.
Also it depends on what you plan to do with your plants! If they outgrew little plastic cups and you need them in something bigger before you transplant them outside, then you can use any bigger container; for instance if you have a milk container you can cut off the top and plant in there. Water bottles, bean cans, juice containers, shampoo containers if they're bigger than cups.
If you plan to have your plants live in that specific container without moving it further, then you find as big stuff as possible; I have some plants growing in laundry detergent containers, oil containers, plastic buckets. Those work okay if big enough!
I did also source some flimsy pots from cemetary trash, people love to throw those away and it's a waste. But generally it can be hard to source them. I hope one day to learn to make them from clay; I've seen women on facebook make pots with a mix of wet newspapers and cement, unsure how safe that is for edible plants.
Alternatively I've seen gardeners pick grow-bags to grow peppers and potatoes in, it works just like pots but it's fabric. I imagine you'd have to water them more but they keep soil in and are gentle to the roots. I imagine you could make one from scrap fabric and put it on a tray. Here's an example of that:
Good luck and I hope you find some solutions! If anyone else has ideas please pitch in.
