P.s. she basically doesn't remember anything except that she wanted Lizzie to be a pirate. No wonder she blocked out AWE 🤮

2.

Jack says so....

Ted and Terry go to great lengths to express/demonstrate that Jack and Elizabeth are twin flames, birds of a feather, soul mates, "peas in a pod, darling."

Jack knows who she REALLY IS.

Kay? Kay. I think we've arrived at a very special place. Spiritually, ecumenically, canonically.

Hey Disney! Look!!! It worked out for Miss Piggy, didn't it?!?! And what about Ana-freaking-marie?! She gets to be a pirate!! Why, Disney?

4.

She is a treasure trove of pirate lore and songs. She taught Jack his favorite song. 🥹 It's her special interest.

5.

Look at her swashbuckling skills!!!! This just screams "pirate."

6.

Lizzie and the boyz. Just look at her... She's so AT HOME, so in her element when she's sandwiched between bloody pirates.

7.

#professionalpirate skills. She's cunning, she's deceptive, she's got a mind for sea battle strategy, and great leadership skills. Voted Pirate King for a reason.

8.

Real-life lady pirates. Some of them were even married to other pirates. So many missed opportunities...😩 Jack and Elizabeth should have had a flamboyant pirate wedding. I feel so cheated.

I love how "blood sacrifice" is literally just any amount of blood. Elizabeth will have a gnarly scar on her hand but otherwise be none the worse for wear. She might even have done it voluntarily if Barbossa had a good enough sob story.

a few thoughts after my potc stranger tides rewatch 

1. a bit of backstory on me and this movie: stranger tides is actually the reason that i watched these movies in the first place. i never watched potc as a child because of about seventy five reasons, but i came across a merthur fic when i was sixteen that charted the plot of stranger tides with arthur as the missionary dude and merlin as the mermaid and i was SUPER intrigued. so i decided to watch all of potc. the entire movie series for this one merthur fic

2. even the second time, in some ways this movie is not as good as the merthur fic. i enjoy it because i like the series and i DO feel like there’s a lot of good stuff, but it’s just not as good when it focuses too much on jack. 

3. things i love about this movie! angelica impersonating jack is a legit fun way to open this thing, the mermaids scene is legitimately ominous in ALL of my favorite ways, the set up for the mermaid and missionary character is interesting even though the follow through is eh, the set up for the fountain of youth is great and i LOVE the water floating scene that leads jack in the best direction, the black pearl in the bottle is perfect, and i love barbosa so i enjoyed most of his stuff in this movie. the sailor boy song is some of my favorite music from this and the background music at the fountain is also great

4. stuff i didn’t love: penelope cruz’s character might be hot, but she’s flat. i don’t understand her motivations at all. the missionary and mermaid are both interesting set ups that don’t pay off as well as they could. black beard doesn’t make much sense? idk. the mermaid explanation seems like it’s gross from a doylist perspective, but from a watsonian perspective the assumptions that SAILORS would make track. 

5. my mom thought that they were hunting down the fountain of youth to save will from davy jones’s fate and honestly? will’s the character i care for least in the core trilogy and i think that could have been interesting. 

6. all in all, not nearly as good as the rest but enough good points for me to enjoy myself. i just want to watch some sailors get murdered by mermaids and see the fountain of youth and this does deliver. it could deliver better, but it delivers. 

7. still kinda prefer that merthur fic tho
