Every time I think I’m out, I just get pulled right back in! And I’m cool with that. You know, there are really so many subject you could cover in a Gravity Falls comic. The location alone had a ton of untapped potential. Let alone the adventures the Pines Family would probably be having in their respective parts of the world. Just look at Avatar. In their comic series, there have been 4 story arcs so far, with a 5th on the way. All of which focused on different ideas and revolved around different characters. Mostly Zuko, but you get the gist.
Like Gravity Falls, Avatar didn’t run that long, and it just didn’t have time to explore the world and characters it created as much as it could have. That’s not a complaint about the show by any means however. Avatar is a near perfect story overall. So the fact that it was able to have a high quality continuation of it’s massive story through supplementary material, without harming the integrity of the original series is admirable.
I believe that Gravity Falls also has the strength and potential to continue in the same way. In fact, in a way, the Journal that was released could be evidence for that. It may not have continued the story, but it expanded on what the show already gave us. Going more in depth into things that were popular with fans, but just didn’t have a place in the show for various reasons.
But even if all the big questions of the show have been answered, and the greatest adventure is finished, there could still be great stories to tell. Sure, it won’t be as massive. But when you have great characters that left the show doing exciting and interesting things, after they’ve gained new perspectives, and as the show taught us, the supernatural isn’t confined to Gravity Falls, they don’t need to be. If Gravity Falls comics are a thing that is going to happen, I’ll be looking forward to whatever they decide to give us.
Just as long as a decent chunk of it is dedicated to Stan and Ford’s paranormal swashbuckling adventures. Because come on. That’s what we all really, really, really wanna see, right?
