My muse has just been grievously injured…. Send me ‘ l i f t e d ‘
for my muse’s reaction to yours picking them up and carrying them to safety.
“ i’m fine, i’m fine — – ” his voice cracks even on those few words, feeling his body heaved upward. james doesn’t fight it, closing his eyes instead as he breathes heavily. he can’t fight it, honestly, not when he’s so sore. blood trickles from his wounds, and he winces. “ — steve stop, i’ll be okay, i – ” a lance of pain shoots through him and he grits his teeth suddenly, closing his eyes tight and choking on the noise. why does he feel like he’s always being saved by steve? why is he such a burden on the blond? the thoughts are as negative as can be, circling around and around in his head as he’s carried, barely clinging to consciousness.
"You better be okay," Steve warns. In another circumstance, that line might have come wit a crooked smile and a knowing glance. But now, with the other man craddled in his arms and his weight resting against Steve's broad chest as much as it could, Steve can't manage the joking tone. He’s trying to be careful. He hasn't had a chance to stop to really assess Bucky's wounds to see how bad they are, but moving him like this is still better than waiting for back up and medics to reach him. He just has to do his best to swallow the worry that this could be making his injuries worse, one arm braced under Bucky's weight, the other hand supporting his head and shoulders.
"I'm not stopping unless we have to, Buck." They could fix it. Whatever it was, they would fix it. They had to. "You gotta talk to me, though." Honestly. "There's a safehouse three klicks north that might have some supplies if we can't get all the way like this. And I've gotten better at stitchin' a wound than I used to be," he says, and this time he does manage the barest hint of humor for the man in his arms, even if the concern doesn't leave his eyes. It’s meant for reassurance, even if he’s never been great at that. For Bucky, he tries.
