Wotcher!

Here's my current take on Nymphadora Tonks. One of my favorite characters in literature, easily my favorite in "Harry Potter." On this reread, I've been picturing her to look a bit like Akkma from "Titan: A.E."

I decided that I was unhappy with the first version, and touched it up. Fitting for Tonks, really!

Hermione, in her forth year. 

So just like Tonks took forever because I kept changing my mind about the colors and aesthetic, Hermione also took considerably longer than she should have, because of all the pointless details I obsessed over. I seem to be emulating the characters I'm drawing.

The "Lion King" shirt took forever, because the chain had to show up against its color, and because it had to look like a design that could plausibly have hit shelves when the movie came out. I really wanted Hermione to wear the Broadway musical's symbol (imagining that it's the type of thing Hermione might go to see with her parents over the summer). But "The Lion King" didn't hit the stage until she and the boys were hunting Horcruxes! I ended up just looking at various vintage TLK shirts from 1994, and putting a design together from clipart.

While Disney might not seem up Hermione’s alley (remember, Disney wasn’t nostalgic for teens in 1994, it was brand new and “for kids”), I still think it’s plausible she’d visit Disney World over the summer with her parents. Imagine Hermione in elementary school, a young girl who can’t for the life of her figure out why she’s different from her peers. It stands to reason that shortly before getting her Hogwarts letter, Hermione would have related to Belle and Jasmine, and found solace in Disney movies.

I realize, now, that a “Beauty and the Beast” shirt might’ve been more appropriate, but I was going for the Gryffindor connection.

I based Quirrell’s design off of the Blue Raja in "Mystery Men." (And I want to imagine that Hermione Granger's first question in his class was if he was an Englishman who converted to Islam like Cat Stevens.) But, I really tried to get across that he is not Muslim or Arabic, though, and is just a derpy white guy attempting to look "exotic." (So, the Blue Raja.) The fact that wizards all wear robes didn't make that easy. The objects in the turban, just sort of came while drawing.
