I'll be walking on the cliff tops, on the beach and eating fish and chips on the seafront at Ventnor. Lunch I'll be at Steephill Cove for soup, sandwiches and an ice cream. Mugshot Monday 🙂 Here's an earthenware, terracotta mug I made and decorated with coloured slips - a Black Lab, my favourite bred of dog (I am biased as I have one - Ulysses) 🐾 The great thing about earthenware is its relatively lower firing temperature and truer underglaze colours, there's often a degree of experimentation in ceramics, and the firing process means you don't always know what's going to come out of the kiln - so always a degree of trepidation opening the doors of the kiln when commissioned work is involved 🐾 I was thinking to share my thoughts on the crisis but probably best to keep my head down and get on with my work - there's already more than enough commentary out there! 🐾 Everyone says keep positive and I'd only add that we do what we can. In case you were wondering, Uly is happy and well with no sign of giving up his favourite spot in the car for anyone. Front seat passengers have to either put a leg each side and Uly rests his nose in between (which frankly, he doesn't seem to mind). Alternatively, a front passenger must sit skew-whiff (don't think I've ever typed those words in my life before) with both knees jambed into the door handle or, unhelpfully, the gearstick. So much for keeping a safe distance. These are the problems with a small car and a large dog. 🤔 We'll need to venture out soon to buy dog biscuits. I might train Uly to run in to the supermarket and grab them, so avoiding the crowds! We have sunshine here and Spring has properly arrived which is possibly adding to the slightly surreal feeling. My customer is having to manage without their best furry friend just at the moment, so a miniature version for their mantelpiece is sure to l bring a tiny bit of Labrador love into the house 🐾 If you can think of a better way to cheer someone up at the moment (apart from a free bumper pack of loo rolls) please let me know 🙂 There's blackbirds and blue tits building their nests at the side of the garden here, Spring most definitely in action 🐾 The little Lab sculpture was modelled by me from terracotta clay, painted with a white clay slip and will soon be coloured and fine detail added. Red Setters seem to be flavour of the month - aren't they beautiful dogs? Here I'm just putting the finishing touches to one of my custom dog mugs that was ordered from my webshop olleypottery.com (direct link in my Instagram bio). I love making and illustrating these special mugs - they always provide a lot of variety for me as an artist and are very satisfying to complete. This mug will now be left to dry slowly for several days before being fired twice in my kiln.
