You’re not living until you pay money to wash your own dog 😂 . Lately, I’m in a ferocious spring cleaning spree and my pup’s shedding was getting on my last nerve. Any lab owners feel me? Off to the self-serve dog wash we went. I’m actually thankful for paying the $15 to save my own shower drain as well as my vacuum. It was definitely time he had a wash. Also, the place had everything we needed from a dryer to towels. It was so fun and my daughter loved it. . Mugshot Monday 🙂 Here's an earthenware, terracotta mug I made and decorated with coloured slips - a Black Lab, my favourite bred of dog (I am biased as I have one - Ulysses) 🐾 The great thing about earthenware is its relatively lower firing temperature and truer underglaze colours, there's often a degree of experimentation in ceramics, and the firing process means you don't always know what's going to come out of the kiln - so always a degree of trepidation opening the doors of the kiln when commissioned work is involved 🐾 I was thinking to share my thoughts on the crisis but probably best to keep my head down and get on with my work - there's already more than enough commentary out there! 🐾 Everyone says keep positive and I'd only add that we do what we can. We have sunshine here and Spring has properly arrived which is possibly adding to the slightly surreal feeling. My customer is having to manage without their best furry friend just at the moment, so a miniature version for their mantelpiece is sure to l bring a tiny bit of Labrador love into the house 🐾 If you can think of a better way to cheer someone up at the moment (apart from a free bumper pack of loo rolls) please let me know 🙂 There's blackbirds and blue tits building their nests at the side of the garden here, Spring most definitely in action 🐾 The little Lab sculpture was modelled by me from terracotta clay, painted with a white clay slip and will soon be coloured and fine detail added. Little earthenware black dog mug. Quite getting into the terracotta since my Stoke-on-Trent @claycollege trip, I like the white slip surface and the looser feel that seems to come with it. Most potters working with earthenware fire to under 1100°c, in the UK traditionally using lead-based glazes.
