The Wireless charger have been out there for more than 5 to 6 years now but one of the main problems with these existing chargers from companies like samsung for its smartphones line note 8 or galaxy s8 is the way the charger and device should be attached or so closed. Now the new power bank is making a big deal of difference with its rivals in the market. It can actually charge your device from a 80 feet distance. Powercast that a Pittsburgh-based wireless charging company has unveiled a new FCC-approved power transmitter called a “Powerspot” that now can output up to 3W of power to what may be the longest range for wireless technology so far: 80 feet.
Powercast’s mission Since 2003 has been to try and getting rid of not only charging cables, but batteries as well. The idea is that in the future, power could be coming from everywhere around you and there is no need to any sort of battery or cable. Powercast has built two transmitters, the original one called the “Powercaster,” approved by FCC in 2010, and “PowerSpot.” Powercaster because of its larger size was mostly for commercial use, while the more compact PowerSpot will target consumers. Powercast chip can be embedded into devices, called the “Powerharvester,” due to the way it “harvests” the RF energy transmitted by the Powercaster or the PowerSpot.
The PowerSpot transmits 3W of Effective Isotropic Radiated Power (EIRP) to the Powerharvester receiver over the unlicensed 915MHz band, with an integrated 6dBi, directional antenna (70-degree beam pattern), a 5V DC power jack, and requires no configuration. The device is small enough (185.4 x 53.3 x 35.6 mm) that it can be put on a desk or nightstand. Like WattUp and Cota, the PowerSpot can deliver several Watts of power up to a few feet distance between the transmitter and the receiver. However, the amount of power they can deliver is directly tied to their ranges.
Powercast is set to show off its PowerSpot transmitter at CES 2018. One PowerSpot transmitter is expected to cost $100 and ship in Q3 2018, price tag could drop to half and sell at $50 if goes to mass production, the company said.
