Were you a Webkinz or Neopets kid?

For this Ask Game.

I’m gonna be the weird kid here and say neither, my pick is “Powerpets”

When I was a kid my knowledge of Neopets extended only to knowing some of the pets thanks to the fact McDonald’s ran them as kids toys and I still have a bunch of them. I would have been totally into Webkins or Neopets if A. My parents had bought them for me but we were kind of poor and B. If my schools computer firewall hadn’t blocked the site.

My school blocked any website that wasn’t “educational” and since Neopets was viewed that way, it was blocked. HOWEVER Powerpet’s was basically the same website but less popular/optimized with less advertising and it WAS technically educational since it used real world animals and taught kids about them as part of game-play/quests.   

The site is still in operation at www.powerpets.com so you can still play! I’m still on there!

Writing Challenge

I saw @today-only-happens-once do a post about this, and I’d thought it’d be fun. Basically the “post a pic from seven years ago, three years ago and then this present year” but with writing!

2011

All the dog’s coats were super dirty and couldn’t tell what color they were just by personally which in some ways were the best, some Bratty kids just get a pet because it matches it’s Room or some crazy thing, a girl stopped at section number 7 supposedly a lucky number, but she thought it would be good to stop their first just to be fun and make fun of people who believed that, this girl, Ally or known by her nickname Joker was a real comedian and was a real animal-lover, but never made particle jokes that were unsafe for animals, she looked at the four Puppies, her mother said that she could have at least two pets if she could buy them herself but she knew that the pound would only ask her a really cheap price for animals that suffered and needed a chance at life, she decided Sweet-Heart and wise supposedly 6 year old hope, because she saw how motherly she acted around the pups, but never in a million years did Hope think she was to be adopted, usually the Pups she Mothered were taken away from her as soon as they could stop getting nursed from the Bottles as a  Animal-lover girl did

you have NO idea how much this physically pains me to look at this.

2015

“Computer, how are you functioning?” Kathryn stood by my side, holding a memory chip.

A little transparent figure popped up on top of the chip. The sudden appearance threw me off for a loop.

“My processing is running at full-capacity.” The red figure reported cheerfully, “Although in this smaller transporting unit, it may take approximately a few seconds later to retrieve files from my database. Unfortunately, this transporting unit does not have radar systems as well, I’m afraid.”

“I didn’t know our computer could do that.” I stated in amazement. Kathryn looked at me questioningly.

“I mean, you know, do the hologram image thing.” I elaborated.

“Indeed, Lieutenant Jr. Ryder,” The computer addressed me directly, “I can do the ‘hologram image thing’ as you called it.”

I stared at her. My mouth widened in surprised.

“Did that computer just sass me?” I murmured.

“Indeed she did,” Kathryn smirked, “Now are we getting a move on or what, ‘commander?’”

2018

“Logan, you know I can’t die,” Roman chuckles as he fiddles with his bandages, “Why, there isn’t even a hint of grey in my hair!”

“Roman,” Logan says gently, resisting eye contact, “Prophecies often use figurative language. Have you considered…that a cloak of red might not be referring to kingship?”

It sounds unnatural to Roman’s ears. Logan is a skilled craftsman with words—his voice sharp and reedy as he points out numerous flaws in Roman’s thought processes. It could be steady and grounding, like the gentle rain of a spring shower as he reassured Roman of comforting facts. It sometimes grew high and hysterical when he lost his temper. But never soft and broken, like one who might use when conversing with someone on their deathbed.

Roman wants to cry. He laughs instead, laughs until his chest ached and his lungs give out on him. He pats Logan on the back as he wheezes for breath.

“Good joke, Wiz! You almost got me there!” He smiles.
