Day 2 of Practicum:
It was tough and long. I had to get up at 5 a.m to help the care assistants wake up the clients and prepare them for the day. I also fed a few of them, specifically the advanced dementia clients. After that we had to fill out a database on information gathered from huge binders that were practically overflowing with paper work. How on earth do doctors get away with such messy writing? Also I was told to find a way to keep my anxiety under control before it either hampers my learning experience or begins to effect the clients or fellow classmates. I'm so tired
Some things people don't tell you about nursing school pt. 1
- You will run into nurses that eat their young and you will run into nurses that empower you. Stay close to the ones that empower you.
- Falling asleep for the first night before your set of shifts is always the hardest and most stressful. Accept it and move on.
- Coffee is a magical elixir (or tea)
- Don't let nurses dump their assignment on you, you are there to learn.
- Don't let patients treat you like garbage, be polite and empathetic but don't let them tear you down
- Find how you study best and stick with that.
- When you find that core group of friends in nursing, stick with them.
- Self care is IMPORTANT! You can't take care of others if you don't take care of yourself!!!!!!***
21 more days til I graduate nursing school— here’s some selfies to celebrate! 👩🏻⚕️🫀📚👩🏻🎓
Personal (Day 29)
So I got my 3rd midterm back today. The class was tense because we averaged 74% collectively. Highest mark being 96% and lowest being 46%. Everyone was terrified. Luckily I got a 74% on my exam. But if I'm being honest, that exam was intense. The multiple choice questions in nursing exams are brutal!
