Like the rest of the world I’m just so done with COVID. As a nurse, I’m terrified every day that I’ll show up to work and our facility will be in outbreak. I’m tired of being swabbed weekly. We’re all exhausted and totally burnt out.
Getting my second dose of the Pfizer vaccine today made me incredibly emotional. I cried the whole way home hoping that maybe this will be the beginning of the end? I put on a smile for the selfie. Black and white cause my eyes are red.
So I got a crappy grade back on an assignment. An assignment I thought I did pretty well on- but some profs are hard markers, idk if I missed a verbal instruction somewhere due to my hearing impairment, but I definitely misread a written one and it lost me like 7 marks - for misreading that one. . . It happens, but now I know what to expect from that prof and the only@place I can go from here is up! So more effort in class, knock quizzes out of the park! And kill this next assignment! Plus go to some office hours to make sure I’m understanding content! . . Online definitely makes some things more difficult- especially with being HoH/deaf but in the end the only person responsible for myself is me. . . #workharder #failed #nurse #nursingstudent #studentnurse #nursetobe #nurseingthemaking #nurblr #nurses #rn #rpn #rntobe #undergradnursing #ltcnurse #nightnurse #geriatricsnurse #newbienurse #babynurse #nightshift #nightnurse #lpn #lvn #cna #psw #bscn #bsn #adn #bscntobe #bsntobe #nurselife https://www.instagram.com/p/CHNd_8phiGw/?igshid=10ih8lk3ja6xc
Being with a patient that was told so many times “if you have this surgery, you’re going to die” and then being with him when he was told “you should have this surgery, or you might die” for the past 3 days has been a real perspective gainer. Talking with him for about an hour going through his options with him while he was thinking about a decision was heartbreaking to just hear him decide if his life was worth risking either way. His kids “are dicks” (his words) and told him “just have the surgery, if you die 🤷🏼♀️ oh well”. He told me my second day that he wanted the surgery and I held his hand and asked “and we’re ok with that decision?” “I have to be”. He got back from surgery an hour before the end of my shift. I was ecstatic! His vitals were stable, he was in good spirits and a little bit of pain but he was “ok”! I worked last night again with him and he was up and walking to the bathroom, vitals all good, he’s got bad lungs but that’s what he’s lived with for a while. It’s his birthday today so I got him a muffin from Tim Horton’s and left it on his side table with Happy Birthday written on it. He can’t eat it yet but I’m hoping he can later today or tomorrow 🤞
I was hoping the whole time he was in the OR that this wasn’t going to be one of those character building situations. You know those moments that you’re just like “fuck, that couldn’t have gone any worse just to teach me a lesson in not getting your hopes up”. But sometimes things just work out, and it’s nice to have a win ♥️
