It is an incorrect statistic that practitioners make many mistakes. Most practitioners make only a single fatal mistake. Unkillable Blake Thorburn, who makes hundreds of mistakes a day is an outlier, and should not have been counted.

Abstract - Paula Scher
This episode of Abstract I really enjoyed as it gave me an in-depth insight into Scher’s work and the variety but also understanding the use of the environment around us. She uses New York City to her advantage, with exploring the typographic forms and how unique they are and the arrange of personalities of the type as well as the people, creating a culture in the city. She explores the environment on a large scale of maps as well which I found interesting, seeing things from down below as well as up above to raise an array of questions and draw an array on inspiration.
The work for the Public Theater I found very interesting as to where the inspiration was drawn. Looking at old wood type, the inspiration of weights of the typeface was significant in producing an identity which represented the diversity of the city without the design being too cluttered which I found very interesting. Type is a big part of the advertising there so using that style of typeface to her advantage without having to display the logo anywhere and just let the type represent the brand is very powerful and shows that power of typography that I can always take into account with my work. I also like how a lot of the posters are more type heavy rather than including imagery as she lets the type speak for itself, emphasising the power letterforms have.
I also like how she manipulates letter forms to look like imagery so that the design remains simplistic without over cluttering it with imagery but still effectively communicate. The use of just making the H look like railway tracks is so simple but gets the point across easily which I really like.
I was also interested in her work to do with maps. How she raises questions with visually displaying data using hand-made lettering and using bold colours to distinctively map each place out. It gives a new perspective to data and sees it from a different angle which I found intriguing.
For this project, I like the use of manipulating the area/environment. Using the layout of the area, they created an inventive and unique logo from it which I found really useful. It makes me consider how I can use the environment to my advantage and overall see things from different perspectives.
Finally, I really liked the use of Scher’s environmental graphics. How she uses the environment around her to her advantage to create striking typographic work and bring it out into the real word in a loud, bold and exciting way.
This show has taught me ways to see things from a different perspective to make the most out of the environment and typographic forms.
STOP APPROPRIATING CHAKRAS.
They are much more complex than whatever understanding you think you have
The concept and definition you have in your mind has been severely watered down and distorted
The practices of other cultures aren't yours for the taking, especially if you're going to misuse and misrepresent them
Just because you looked at a rainbow chart and bought a necklace with "chakra stones" doesn't mean you're a Buddhist
I'm talking to all practitioners, black, white, green, purple, idgaf.
