I know I usually post, well, "trash" because this is a trash blog, but please, if you have time, I would really appreciate if you could read this post, put aside your political biases and consider reblogging this.
I'm in contact with a girl from Iran (who for understandable reasons wishes to remain anonymous) over Instagram who recently shared with her followers that she might not be able to connect to the internet because their government will shut it down.
She and I would like to share first hand information about the situation of civilians in her country.
This is the message that she sent me:
I was thinking about what to send you about Iran's current situation and thought this one is the best 👆🏻
for many, many years groups of people have peacefully protested but every time, some people were murdered and some were arrested. In the past 12 years the number of protests and protestors have increased.
Living situation gets more difficult everyday. Freedom of speech means nothing here. All women are forced to wear the hijab (some believe in hijab and some don't).
Everything is so expensive and now it's hard for many people to buy meat or some other things for food. In 2019 the price of gas was tripled over one night and the protests started.
Over 1500 people were killed and so many were arrested and Internet was completely shut down for days (except for "themselves"). Since then they're trying to limit our access to universal internet (just like in China and Russia) and they might succeed.
This time, about 10 days ago, people of Khuzestan (a big province in the south of Iran) started the protest because their rivers are dry because of terrible management. And they don't have clean water. And now internet is shut down in Khuzestan.
Since then, some other cities have joined the protests. Today Tehran did."
She sent me several videos documenting the protests:
These videos above are the protests from the province of Khuzestan.
And these three above happened today in Tehran.
Please, these are civilians, like you and me, everyday people, living in danger from day to day, with limited supplies of food and water (sometimes none). On top of that, their government is threatening to cut them from the internet.
If you can, please, share, reblog, make this information known.
