The situation in Iran
Hello everyone,
I know I usually post, well, "trash" because this is a trash blog, but please, if you have time, I would really appreciate if you could read this post, put aside your political biases and consider reblogging this.
I'm in contact with a girl from Iran (who for understandable reasons wishes to remain anonymous) over Instagram who recently shared with her followers that she might not be able to connect to the internet because their government will shut it down.
She and I would like to share first hand information about the situation of civilians in her country.
This is the message that she sent me:
"Hi again ❤️
I was thinking about what to send you about Iran's current situation and thought this one is the best 👆🏻
for many, many years groups of people have peacefully protested but every time, some people were murdered and some were arrested. In the past 12 years the number of protests and protestors have increased.
Living situation gets more difficult everyday. Freedom of speech means nothing here. All women are forced to wear the hijab (some believe in hijab and some don't).
Everything is so expensive and now it's hard for many people to buy meat or some other things for food. In 2019 the price of gas was tripled over one night and the protests started.
Over 1500 people were killed and so many were arrested and Internet was completely shut down for days (except for "themselves"). Since then they're trying to limit our access to universal internet (just like in China and Russia) and they might succeed.
This time, about 10 days ago, people of Khuzestan (a big province in the south of Iran) started the protest because their rivers are dry because of terrible management. And they don't have clean water. And now internet is shut down in Khuzestan.
Since then, some other cities have joined the protests. Today Tehran did."
She sent me several videos documenting the protests:
These videos above are the protests from the province of Khuzestan.
And these three above happened today in Tehran.
Please, these are civilians, like you and me, everyday people, living in danger from day to day, with limited supplies of food and water (sometimes none). On top of that, their government is threatening to cut them from the internet.
If you can, please, share, reblog, make this information known.
Thank you.
I'm writing another reblog with the current situation at hand.
Just to summarise: 22-year-old Mahsa Amini was arrested after leaving the train at Tehran's train station. She was brutally beaten up and taken to custody. She fell into a coma and was taken to a hospital, where she died a couple of days later.
Her family was not allowed to see her, not allowed to get her medical information, or even see her body. They were told she passed away from a heart attack when she didn't have any previous health issues and was only 22.
Why was she arrested in the first place? Because a bit of her hair was showing underneath her hijab.
This is a picture of her from the day she was arrested.
Another source also says because of tight trousers....
Protests have outburst in Iran and worldwide following this. Women are fighting for their rights and Iranian people, in general, want to overthrow their regime.
Unfortunately, certain western media as well as local propaganda is trying to push an agenda that is simply not true.
Exhibit A:
The dark red part was written by a guy trying to twist the information again. The light red is a comment on it written by my friend.
With all due respect, in the countries that are mentioned in the post, no one is getting literally murdered for what they choose to wear. No one is shutting their internet down and trying to silence the people. This is what my friend sent me to post:
"The protests are still going strong, almost 80 people have been killed, so many are arrested and imprisoned"
"The government calls the protesters "turbulent" and the online protesters "bots" and they say these protests are because of women's sexual needs 😳 can you believe this fucking moron???"
"It's 19:30 in here and I don't have internet connection, apparently your messages were delivered some hours ago. I'm replying now but don't know when you're going to see my messages. Hamed Esmaeilioun (an author whose wife and daughter were murdered in the 752 Ukrainian flight by Iran's regime 😭) announced a global protest against IRI for today, and they indicated some cities for the protests to take place in, and I don't have internet to see how it went 😭 I'll give you some information when I'm connected and have checked the news ❤"
Aside from Mahsa Amini, two other girls, both 16 years old, have been murdered.
"This is Nika Shakarami, she was just 16. My heart is broken for her it's like I knew her it's like all of them are my siblings. Last night I felt my heart was so heavy I could just die. I cried and cried until I fell asleep. Nika disappeared on 20 September 2022 in Tehran, Keshavarz Boulevard during the protests. She was found dead ten days later. Her face was smashed because she had been beaten severely by a baton. The police didn't let her family see her body. There is some news about her being raped but I don't know if they're true or false. Her aunt posted some photos and information, but then she was arrested along with Nika's uncle, and apparently they were forced to appear on a tv news show (it's called 20:30 News but it has always been a despicable show trying so hard to demonize anyone who opposes the regime; every time they are caught during a crime like Mahsa's murder or Nika's, they threaten the victim's family or friends to appear on their show and lie) and both of them said Nika killed herself!!! I have no energy to tell you how stupid and full of mistakes this stupid show was, it made no sense. When Nika's uncle is speaking, you can see a shadow of a man beside him, who's nodding his head when Nika's uncle is telling their lies, and you can hear him whisper "say it, you sludge!" … they don't care if people notice this, they don't care that we know all of their scenarios. However, her mother gave an interview with Iranian foreign cable tv, risking her own life, and she said "My daughter was murdered by IRI's forces."
"I hate to say this but IRI's propaganda is still working so hard to tell the world that our problem is "economy" or "dress code" but IT'S NOT WE WANT THE MULLAHS TO GO." "I don't want to leave my country, all my life I've been thinking about immigration, to have a better and free life but all I (and millions of other young people) want right now and hope for, is for this regime to be terminated so we could stay here, live and work in our own country so we could make it strong again."
(corrected some typos)
Another young woman, Sarina Esmailzadeh, also lost her life thanks to the IRI ways:
On top of all this, Iran's government has an army of online trolls paid to spread misinformation and stop regular people from sharing actual information from their country.
Whatever you see in a comment discussion, people without a profile picture who claim Iranians are liars and push the agenda with Mahsa dying from a heart attack, that's them.
The protests have been going on for weeks. This is a moment in history for the Iranian people and their future. Please spread this information forward.
