YES THE 10TH KINGDOM. I LOVED THIS WHEN I WAS A CHILD. I CRIED WHEN THE SINGING RING GOT EATEN BY THE FISH. I CRIED SO MUCH. I MOURNED FOR THAT RING.
I LOVED THAT RING. HE JUST WANTED TO MAKE PEOPLE HAPPY.
it sucks that sci-fi and fantasy miniseries like this one simply don’t get made in the US anymore. I loved the Snow White and Dinotopia miniseries, both aired on ABC - a network that doesn’t do that these days. Hallmark Entertainment put out a variety of great miniseries of that sort and they just don’t do it anymore, which is a shame. we get almost no decent fantasy or sci-fi programming on network television. there was supposed to be a sequel to the 10th Kingdom but we never got it!!! although as recently as 2015 Scott Cohen said they were still trying for one at some point on twitter, bless him.
Seriously though, the seed of so many things I would like years later was in that series. The mismatched found family at the center of it, the awkward but passionate and heartfelt and kind of crazy romance between Wolf and Virginia, the deep psychological exploration of all the central characters, the subversion of tropes and the restructuring of fairy tales from a feminist perspective. It came out when I was nine and I’ve loved it ever since. @blueincandescence and @cassienandor I’m curious if that was your experience with it? also @cassienandor what does this remind you of, not to mention this
