I am pausing for one hot second to record my preconceptions and expectations for the sequel to VE Schwab's Vicious, Vengeful. only ONE second though because I am desperate to get started on this book. my expectations are actually so high, y'all.

not sure where this one's going, because Vicious tied up its narratives pretty satisfactorily, even if it left space for a continuation. based on the teaser at the end of the last book, there's a new narrator: a mob wife looking for revenge on her husband. so my prediction for this book is that Victor and Eli are gonna have to work together to defeat this new big bad EO. AND MAYBE THEY'LL KISS. but who knows!

now you'll have to excuse me. I have a book to read.

How to pre-read before your lecture?

No it doesn’t mean just reading it or studying the lecture beforehand!

The rule of 8

Throughout reading the lecture you could write 8 questions that you didn’t understand at all

Or

After the lecture write 8 generic sentences that you understood and leave a space after each sentence so you could write the details you learnt after you’ve heard the lecture!

my next read? This is How You Lose the Time War

I'm going into this book completely blind; I know nothing about the authors, and nothing about the plot other than what I can guess or infer from the title and back cover. I think the internet might've told me that it has CaitVi vibes, like Arcane? Who knows.

This one was an impulse buy; I had a gift card to spend, you know the drill. I liked the cover, and it has a blurb with VE Schwab and Madeleine Miller recommending it. So of course I had to see what it's about.

Taking bets now to see if this book makes me cry!

okay and the last thing i want to talk about is elise allen. this is the only YA novel she's published under her own name. most of her ouvre is picture book tie-ins to disney movies, a couple of original novels for a younger audience, and also she appears to have ghost written a YA series for hillary duff (some of the language i'm seeing says "co-writer" but i think the original arrangement was a ghostwriter one). also she grew up in philadelphia (which is where Populazzi takes place) and looks a lot like the way that cara is described. i don't think any of this is spectacularly interesting but it's here if anyone was wondering

since i was on the amazon page i decided to peruse the reviews. i want to respond to them but i guess i should probably present the book to you before arguing with a bunch of reviewers from 2012. what i will say is that multiple people seem to think the title is a portmanteau of popular and paparazzi, and it just isn't. it's just a cutesy play on the word popular. you can think it's cringe, but it's not meaningfully related to the word paparazzi

okay not only did they SEO the title but the amazon description seems to have had an AI synopsis added to it?

the top description, the one in normal paragraphs, that was always there, but those bullet points are ai generated and tacked on! what the hell
