MEITANTEI PRECURE EPISODE 11!!

Everyone and their MOTHER has been waiting for this episode and honestly I'm shook. As the first real episode focused on Cure Arcana Shadow, let's talk!

First of all, we finally get to see what kind of thief Ruruka is: a classic phantom thief! Instead of just going after the items and throwing out immediate flare, Ruruka is smart, sneaky, and conniving. She sends out a calling card (which is AWESOME btw) in typical phantom thief fashion, and even uses a well-documented disguise in order to sneak in. We can already see that she's LEAGUES above the other thieves given her cunning behavior, but that's not all.

She's awfully playful, as if her going on solo missions is what brings out her true self. She teases the Precure lightly here and there throughout their encounter, as if she's somehow fond of their attempts at being "heroes." I found it fascinating that she teased the cures so much, and even brought up the propaganda for "lying isn't bad." She's smiling all the while, while Cure Answer vehemently denies that lying could ever be good. It makes me wonder what Ruruka went through in order to allow herself to associate with the Phantom Thief Guild.

Anyhoo, her transformation was unique, even though a little less fluid than our current cure duo. However, ever single motion she makes is graceful, elegant, and perfect. She emphasizes "mazes" and "labyrinths," probably alluding to the fact that she herself is a mystery to the audience.

Answer and Mystique are asking the exact same question as the audience: "Why is Cure Arcana Shadow a thief?" Her attack, "Arcana Star Rain" was POWERFUL, if not a bit overkill to our heroines. She's clearly their senior if it wasn't evident enough.

And even when Ageseine intruded on the scene, she made it CLEAR that she wanted to take on the duo ALONE. She didn't hesitate in drop-kicking the Hanninda for nearly trying to annihilate Cure Mystique in the process.

And at the very end, Arcana Shadow says the classic senior cure line, "you're not ready to defeat the bad guys." Yet, despite it all, I personally think she WANTS them to beat the Phantom Thief Guild. As to why, I'm unsure. Her motives are unclear for now, especially when it was her "attempted heist" that brought out the truth about the museum curator's misdeeds about displaying false items.

I'm so excited to see when she comes back in another episode. I love her!!!!

I got into precure around when wanpre started. Since then, I've watched Futari Wa (no Max Heart) and Yes 5 (no GoGo). Before that, I watched both Glitter Forces 6 years ago, but I really want to watch the original not racist precure seasons.

I'm currently watching Fresh Precure and Star Detective/Meitantei Precure as it airs!

My current favorite cures are Cure Black, Cure White, Cure Rouge, Cure Berry, Cure Mystique, and CURE ANSWER <3 (if you couldn't tell already lol)

I love this series so much! Can't really tell why, but I do! I like the episodic nature and how formulaic it is, which is kinda nice because of how plot-focused everything's become. I really want to watch all of the seasons eventually, and maybe also watch the movies and read the manga, but that's a later issue

Meitantei Precure Episode 14!!

Today we meet the Student Council President: Kaneda Rei! She pretty much fits the archetype of "serious and rule-abiding student council president," though we learn from dialogue and her actions that she's not exactly as stone-faced as she seems.

Ngl, I love her. She's actually really sweet and thoughtful about the students. However, given her title and rigid attitude towards others, she's seen as scary and people tend to avoid her. Hell, she got SO stunned that Anna and Mikuru told her good morning NATURALLY instead of forced.

And even when she found out about Pochitan, she didn't shoot the girls' down. She actually ENCOURAGED them to get permission to bring Pochitan on campus. Her moments with Pochitan were sweet too! She's a girl who cares!!!! GOD I hope she's Cure Eclair (or part of her) because l adore her.

Anyhoo, onto Plot B, we finally get word back from the London Curetto agency about Cure Arcana Shadow. However, just as soon as the letter drops, Mashutan and Ruruka aren't having ANY of it. Whatever that secret is, it's enough to jeopardize whatever plan Ruruka has. Does it have to do with her past as a Star Detective? Is it related to her origin? Is SHE from another time, too? Augh, so many questions!

BTW ANSWER'S NEW FINISHER? I ADORE IT. Finally, a finisher with flashier style AND decent speed! I'm so happy they're giving my girl more stuff!!! I'm eager to see what they do with Mystique's when the time comes.

Honestly, too, I was expecting Arcana Shadow destroying the letter...only to find out that Pochitan took the wrong thing! Thank God because I was BEGGING that Toei wouldn't do the thing where they basically give us nothing after setting it up in previous episodes. I really hope this cracks things wide open next episode.

Meitantei Precure Episode 12!!

Right off the bat, we pick up after the Cure Arcana Shadow reveal. I'm so glad they didn't drop this, or else I'd be UPSET that they didn't immediately talk about WHY she's there. Anna and Mikuru want as much answers as possible, but we also find out that Jett has NO CLUE who she is either. It's safe to say they've never once interacted, and she must've departed from the agency before he showed up to close it.

The fact that the girls' didn't once pick up on Ruruka's EYES, HAIR COLOR, AND COWLICKS SENT ME. They share LITERALLY one braincell at a time. Though, as silly as it was, we got to see just how different the 3 cures act between each other.

Ruruka, despite her goal being to steal the Makoto Jewel, is incredibly nuanced about the thin lines between lies and cherishing something that may not have been true. She tells Masami that even though her wish didn't come true, her feelings and the binding of the bracelet was. It makes me wonder just how long had she had this lesson taught to her, or what her true motivations are for what she does.

And even when confronted by Jett, Mystique and Answer, she plays off "helping" Masami as well as sparing Pochitan from her demise several episodes back. She says that it's because she was curious about the power she held, but is that true? But, of course, this brings up the question: What the HELL are all of Pochitan's abilities? She can return Makoto Jewels back to their owners and senses whenever one is in danger. She's obviously ridiculously powerful, but what else can she do other than time travel?

Even Arcana's reaction made me wonder more about this situation. You can see on her face that she's FLOORED (in a kuudere kinda way). What do you mean that these new Precure don't have a clue? What do you mean that they don't know anything about Pochitan's powers or what she really is? It shows that the gap between the three cures is much larger than we thought.

AND I WAS RIGHT, IT WAS HER AGENCY BEFORE SHE LEFT. Though I gotta know just how long she stayed a "Detective" before calling it quits. Did Usonoir step in and convince her? Did she have a breaking point and couldn't get past the moral hurdles? So many questions!!!!

Speaking of Usonoir, he's coming down to rain terror on our girls...I'm sensing either a new attack or buildup to a new finisher. It's too early for Arcana Shadow to switch sides. The suspension is intense!

Something I've thought about recently is the fact that we see just how juvenile the MeiPre girls are to this whole Precure thing. Most Precure before them are already combat established by episode 12, but here we see just how FLOUNDERING Answer and Mystique are.

It feels realistic. What kind of 14 year olds are gonna know how to properly fight?! Especially if it's against a squad of people that are basically on a higher level than you?! I'm so curious to see how they end up (and pray that the writing team doesn't fuck it up).
