Did you know you had to draw and redraw so many pictures before you have a finished graphic novel??? In retrospect, I can certainly skip some steps, but I do think all the extra preliminary work lent the book an extra polish in the finished pages. 😊

I think this is how Baz would casually hold his cigarette without thinking, kind of like the way he'd hold his violin.This is My first sketch for my #carryonstoryboard project. Stay tuned! I already have a lot more sketches I'm waiting to post. This is all preliminary work, these sketches will be transferred into a storyboard format scene by scene. but the rough sketches will aesemble in my sketchbook in more of a graphic novel format.

This scene isn't in the book, but my adaptation would start with the scene where Baz gets kidnapped from the club. I always imagined the club would have a few different recreation areas, including a poker room, and Baz would be good at it. Like REALLY good. Under usual circumstances he would be considered too young to join in, but his Mother's name can get him in almost anywhere, and his father encourages he learn to excel at a gentleman's game.

I don't think this is a strong opening shot for a film like this, this is not the tone for the the rest of the film. but I'd like the camera to start at the far end of the room and move across the table to show us Baz as he lights his cigarette (possibly with magic) and taking a puf, sitting stiff from his bad hand, but no signs of that on his face. He knows smoking is no longer permitted and is hoping it could save him from his terrible hand, but he knows his opponents will read it as nothing more than an intimidation tactic.

THE PHONE CALL | Video Story Class Assessment

Today, for our monthly assessment, we put whatever we had learned so far to use by shooting a short film on campus in the given time according to a storyboard we were provided.

The entire class was given the same storyboard, but we worked in groups of around 5 to 7, which meant that at the end, we'll get to see multiple films that used the same source material. It will be interesting to see how all of us interpret the same storyboard.

This assignment was our first try at making anything cohesive, and I definitely believe that it gave us valuable lessons that we will use to better our actual film opening project later on.

Although our output might not be anything to be particularly proud of, we certainly had a lot of fun making this short film and that is enough for now.

Video Story Class Assignment | We'll Be Memories - A Short Film

A Prelude:

Truthfully, we have had multiple class assignments for Media Studies since the start of the term, but since I wasn't proud of my work, I chose not to put them on my blog; I want this blog to showcase work I am proud of- work I feel accurately showcases my talents.

And though the short film I made for this assignment is not perfect in any way and there is a lot I wish I could change or improve, I am proud of the work I did.

The Task:

Our assignment was simple- to make a short film that had a clear narrative story using a variety of camera shots and angles. It was also required to be edited properly with music, a title in the beginning, and closing credits at the end. We were to work individually on this assignment.

The Final Product:

In Hindsight:

I battled my procrastination heavily while making this film, but I finally decided on a vague storyline just in time to film and edit it by the deadline; something I am admittedly proud of.

However, because I only came up with a 'vague' storyline before filming, I had to make use of my writing chops to subtitle the film in appropriate places in order to stitch together an actual narrative story. This is something I wish I could remedy by adding a voiceover instead, but what is done is done, and I can't say I completely hate the on-screen subtitles. In my opinion, they give the short film an air of sentimentality that works really well with its overall theme.

All in all, this was a project I not only had a lot of fun working on, but also something that made me feel a lot more prepared to take on my actual Film Opening assignment in the future. Now that I have had some experience planning, filming, and editing a sort film like this, I believe I will be able to learn from my mistakes and do even better.
