How I feel about this character

I like Emily a lot, she's a chaos gremlin and I 🤝

I love that we’ve seen her grow from a scared little kid watching her mother get murdered into this fierce maelstrom of a woman, she’s so cool I love her.

I really really like her detachment from the throne, like her training with corvo, her running around the rooftops at night, it’s like there’s something calling to her, pulling her away from her duties and be free. She’s in this cage of duty and obligation to her people, but she doesn’t want to be there. 

Poor Emily, most rulers get time to grow as people before having the throne thrust upon them, but not for her. She watched her mother get murdered, during a plague that killed a substantial amount of her people, during a tumultous coup that siezed her throne. That alone is a lot to deal with, nevermind her then being thrust onto the throne with the expectation that she’ll just fix this huge mess - at the age of 10! I know she would have had Corvo as Lord Regent, but still she was the figurehead. She represented hope and idk that’s a lot to live up to.

My unpopular opinion about this character

Not sure if this is unpopular as I've seen some posts about this making the rounds buuuuut Emily is a terrible ruler and she shouldn't have taken back the throne. She hates it, she's bad at it, and her shitty rule is hurting the people of the Empire.

Time for a democracy.

One thing I wish would happen / had happened with this character in canon.

Giving up the throne and creating an elected governement to rule in her place. Let her be free. 

Also more interactions with Billie! And for Billie to be pardoned and not a wanted woman?? Wtf Emily?? 

OH and to acknowledge the Daud audiograph?? I don’t understand why there’s just no reaction from her or Corvo on that one? It would have been fun to see something.

Oh! For my defense attorney AU, I think I'll have Kakashi be a judge.

When Sakura discovers the existence of the final piece of evidence - the tape from the security system, she goes to Sasuke to retrieve it. He's a fast and loose cop, willing to bend the rules and skip the warrent, especially where his family is concerned, but Sakura is not. She insists on a warrant so she can use the evidence in court. Sasuke counters that Danzo probably has all the judges in his back pocket, but Sakura remembers an old mentor, Attorney Hatake that recently, and with much reluctance, was appointed as a judge.

They go to his house in the middle of the night, pounding on his door. Inside several dogs howl and bark, swirling around Kakashis feet when he answers the door. He's in PJs, an eye mask pulled down over his lower face (because why not!). "If you're here to elope, I'm not that kind of judge"

After a bunch of blushing and protesting, they deliver their request. Kakashi makes a huge deal out of how much trouble they were and how this was why he didn't want this job in the first place, but ultimately does the right thing and signs the warrent.

So all this l-Arc-ing about (hah) made me decide to revisit Riits. At the risk of nailing down too much about either of these entities, I currently think of Arc as a sort of multiversal parasite, a thing that gallivants about intruding upon various universes and picking off the inhabitants as he pleases. Maybe he is, somehow, also an angel; I like the ambiguity of it all.

Anyway, so I tried to make Riitspit Presiding a bit of an opposite character to Arc. Where ya boy likes to get down in the dirt with the mortals, act human, poke at individuals, Riits is impersonal and vast; pretty much always in ‘genius loci’ form, no interest in helping humans personify it. (The creature in the throne there is Sister, Presiding’s right-hand woman for when it has to interact with the base physical.) You’ve probably noticed that, similarly, one’s an infinite mess of pipes and rust while the other’s gold and cabochon and fire. You’d best believe if Riits ever deigned to actually look like an angel they’d go all-out classical Wings and Eyes.
