when they were teenagers, satoru used to sneak into suguru's dorm right as suguru was returning from his missions and 'hide' under his blanket. it became something of a ritual, satoru would hide, suguru would spot the suspiciously satoru shaped lump on his bed and pretend not to notice for approximately 30 seconds. he'd rip the blanket back to find satoru, face already red from holding back giggles.
then they'd lay together, suguru's head on satoru's chest, decompressing and barely holding his eyes open as he spilled the details of his mission. satoru's fingers would fidget with suguru's, absent little motions that intertwined and released over and over in no particular pattern.
sometimes, when the world gets too heavy, satoru will find himself subconsciously heading down the hallway to suguru's old dorm. the room sits the same way it did when suguru left, the only thing that changes is the way the blanket rests on the bed.
his feet dangle off the end of the bed now when he climbs in and covers himself up. it's the closest thing to peace he can find, surrounded in suguru's imaginary scent. if satoru closes his eyes and breathes deeply enough, he can pretend the smell of his shampoo is still on the pillows. he'll stay there for a while, lost in conversations that never happen outside of his mind.
satoru makes sure there's no one in the hallway when he eventually gathers the courage to leave, maintaining the illusion that suguru's room remains untouched.
