Well hi there, everyone! With May winding down to a close and June just around the corner, it's about that time again...the time where @jadedsunshine, @unicornaffair, and I host our yearly create-a-thon! 🥳
What's the Pride Month Challenge, you might find yourself asking? Well, this year it's a little bingo game we've put together, featuring some classic tropes. The aim of this particular game? Make something!!! Anything! Just get those creative juices a-flowin' and see if you can snag a B-I-N-G-O along the way!
This challenge is open to everyone and anyone who wants to take part, whether you know the three of us or not! We're going to be using the tag #pridemonthchallenge2024 for the stuff we create, so if you decide to join in on the fun and games, feel free to stick that tag on whatever you make, too! If you're interested in more details, you can check below the cut or reach out and ask ;)c
Either way, happy almost-pride, and happy creating!!!
I don't write fic - can I still participate?
Ab. So. Lutely!!! We've done this challenge for a few years now (we've missed a year or two for weddings and other life stuff, whoops!), but in the past we've had people doodle, sketch, draw, make edits, create props or other physical art, and even curate playlists! The three of us are writers, so you're very likely to see fic or ficlets from us...but you? Oh. Oh, you can do whatever your heart desires!!!
Are there word limits/expectations for a finished product?
NO!!! :D Zero. Literally zero expectations. We aren't putting together an exchange, we aren't holding a competition, we're just trying to get the spirit of creation in the air. That's it! So whether you're writing 50 words or 5,000, whether you've made a rough sketch on a notebook page or fully lined/colored a scene, you're good! You're so good. As long as you've made something, you've earned a stamp on that bingo card, baby!!!
What if I don't want to do something fandom-y? Can it be OCs/original work?
OF COURSE!!! 100%. You don't even have to ask!!! Show the world your OCs! Tell the world about your story's worldbuilding! It's all fair game :)
What if I don't want to post what I made?
Don't sweat it! Again, this is...the farthest thing from official. This is for fun, and this is for the sake of making something. Sharing your work can be nerve-wracking - don't feel like you have to! We'd love to see you playing along with us, of course, but as long as you've made something that you're proud of, you've earned that stamp! No ifs, ands, or buts!
Is it cool if my creations aren't necessarily pride-themed?
Totally! We host this challenge during pride month because (1) it traditionally works better for the three of us than NaNoWriMo because of our schedules, and (2) we're queer creators ourselves! But if you're feeling a prompt and can't find a way to make it relevant to pride, PLEASE don't sweat it! As I've been known to say (and then get laughed at for saying), this challenge is no rules, just right, Outback Steakhouse :P
Let's say I get a bingo...what do I win?
:) Nothing. <3
Wait, really?
:) Really <3 Hehehe, in all seriousness, this challenge has been a fun way for us to sit down, take our minds off of life and our bigger projects and just...make some fun stuff! In our humble opinion(s), being able to point at a finished piece and say "I did that! I made that!" is its own kind of reward. The bingo board itself is really more for bragging rights ;)c Which, of course, we encourage wholeheartedly. Nothing wrong with a little bragging!!!
We hope to have you along for our month-long adventure! Again, we're going to be using the tag #pridemonthchallenge2024 for our own stuff, so if you'd like to use that tag - or tag any of us!!! - in whatever you end up creating, feel free!!! We love seeing what everyone comes up with, and this challenge is always so much more fun, knowing other people are taking part! <3 Hope to see you along for the ride!

Today I thought I'd cover one of my favorite tropes: Found Family! This fic is based on a non-canon event in the Total Drama OC universe, but one that I think would be fun had it happened haha. It stars my OC Maggie and her found family (Cole - @hannahwashington's character, and Lola - @horatios-mom's character) along with a few others! Enjoy! And if these characters seem cool to you, do check out the blog we have for our Total Drama OCs: @teadocs!!

December 19th was a complicated day for Maggie. For most of her life it was just another day. No cake or candles, no balloons or presents. Just going through the motions, just another year older somehow.
When she moved to Vancouver, she wasn’t expecting the day to hold any more significance. Her first birthday living on her own was quickly approaching and all the people in her life seemed to have other things going on so she didn’t think much of it. Just like usual, just another day.
She was scheduled to work at the job that Cole’s dad had secured for her, doing the front desk of a hair salon. So she got ready in her usual work go-to outfit. Professional but casual enough she wasn’t uncomfortable after doing all the menial tasks required by her boss, Sandra.
Her phone buzzed in her pocket. She looked down at the screen and it was Sandra, asking her to get there a little early. She didn’t have anything else going on so she replied simply: Sure.
Maggie got into her car, turning over the engine. The check engine light came on and she sighed. She’d needed an oil change for a few weeks but was waiting to get her next paycheck before shelling out the money for it.
I get paid next Friday. I’ll be alright until then… I hope, at least.
She drove the quick 15 minute journey to the salon, parking in the back of the building. The place had been open for a few hours but the customer lot seemed busier than usual as she walked around the corner.
The lights were… off? She looked at the hours pasted on the door and they should be open, there were people here, why were the lights off?
She opened the door, the usual bell ringing as it did with all customers coming in. Sometimes she swore she could hear the bell ringing when she wasn’t even at work.
“Hello?”
Silence.
She flicked on the lights.
“SURPRISE!!!” A load of voices called as people jumped up from their hiding spots, scaring the living shit out of Maggie. She jumped back a few inches in shock.
As she looked around, there were all the people who claimed they were busy for her birthday. Cole, Lola, and even her boyfriend Landon.
“What is this?”
“A surprise birthday party, Mags,” Cole explained, “You think we’d let it pass by without celebrating?”
“I-” she stood there stunned for a moment, “I’ve never had a birthday party I didn’t figure I’d start now.”
“Well as your best friends,” Lola said, wrapping her arm around Maggie’s shoulder, “We could not let that last any longer.”
Maggie chuckled softly, still completely surprised as she looked around the room. Even if she wasn’t close to some of the other cast members that lived in the greater Vancouver area, all of them had come to this makeshift party. Dannie, Paige, Cassie, and Esther stood there, the former wearing a party hat with a noisemaker sticking out of her mouth.
“Happy birthday Maggie,” Paige smiled.
Landon came up to her with a grin, “Hope this was a good surprise.”
“Y-yeah. I just wasn’t expecting it.”
“We have cake!” Cassie pointed out, “Do you want some?”
Maggie nodded, walking further into the salon to spot a makeshift table set up with a cake that had 16 candles stuck into it.
“That seems like a fire hazard.”
“It’ll be fiiiiiine,” Landon chuckled, “I think.”
Sandra, who had emerged from the back with a lighter in hand, painstakingly lit all the candles before all the group of people began to sing to her.
“Happy biiiiirthday dear Maggieeeee! Happy birthday to you!”
She closed her eyes, making a wish. A wish that she would always remember this day, when she realized that while she’d had a shitty family back in Delaware, she had people who really loved her in Vancouver. Maggie blew out the candles and opened her eyes, a smile creeping onto her smile as everyone cheered.

Travis shot him a look. The sort that made it hard to tell whether his backpedaling had worked, or if he’d taken personal offense. He’d learned that shit from Mom. “Funny. Didn’t get a lot of sleep last night, that’s all.”
The coffee curdled in his gut, eating its way through the lining of his stomach. Despite being excruciatingly awake, the dream logic returned with a vengeance. He knew why Travis hadn’t slept last night. He’d been standing beside him at Amelia’s funeral. Here. In the lodge. Only a few steps away from where they were standing now.
Being in the bedroom was too much. They were too close to that drawer, too close to her perfume. In a desperate bid to appear casual, Chris shrugged then stretched his arms wide in a yawn, turning around to guide them into his office instead. “Bad dreams?” he asked, startled at how very small his voice sounded.
Travis took a couple steps after him, then stopped dead. When Chris glanced over his shoulder to see what the holdup was, the surprise on his face was obvious, dark circles or no.
Somehow—inexplicably—it felt like an answer.

summary:
Trini needs to save Kim from death. Two problems with that:
1. Trini doesn’t personally know Kim.
2. Kim is none other than the world’s biggest pop star, KIM, and is untouchable.
3. Trini isn’t sure she even wants to.
But Trini has no choice. After all, she is!…well, not a people person.
At all.
Dammit. Does she have to??

"I mean, isn't it weird?" Abi asked. "Us dating without ever actually...y'know...going on a...date?"
With the end of camp right around the corner and a lot of long-distance phone calls in their future, Abi and Emma realize they somehow managed to skip the "date" part of dating! What a nightmare! ...or it would be, at least, if not for some quick thinking, creative decorating, and, you guessed it, plenty of help from the rest of the Hacketteers.
Is it a "traditional" first date? Probably not. Do their friends really need to be doing funny voices the whole time? DEFINITELY not. Is it a night they'll remember for the rest of their lives? Well, there's one way to find out!
