Thanks for the poll request, anonymous! I'm going to have to add extra options, because a lot of schools only have electronic boards now, or, like in my old school, there were a mix of different board types - we had white boards, black boards, and electronic boards in different classrooms. Anyway, thanks for the poll request, and keep 'em coming folks!

Many UK primary schoolchildren ‘drastically’ missing out on poetry

Research in January by Macmillan and CLPE found limited books and lack of teacher support means majority study or hear poetry less than once

“Poetry is read aloud less than once a week in 93% of schools. In nearly 20% of schools, children never have the opportunity to hear a poem read aloud … the survey found that nearly a quarter of schools teach poetry only once a year or less, partly due to a lack of training and support for teachers.”

A primary school in Birmingham has decided to indoctrinate the children into calling out sexist language with such examples like

- Hey you guys

- Good morning boys and girls

- BOYS AND GIRLS

Are you fucking kidding me to encourage this they give out certificates on a weekly basis to basically make them feel good about policing each others and the teachers language

WHY ARE THE TEACHERS BEING POLICED BY THE CHILDREN

They have little posters that they hold up when someone 'slips up'

One person even ended up on a perfessional conduct meeting for daring to utter the phrase 'boys don't skip' while taking a skipping rope off him which is honestly just overkill. A couple of children snitched on him or her to the headteacher.

It makes me sick how they are now pushing this everything offends "me" narrative on children. Teaching them that they have the power to litterally destory someone's life if they say thry wrong thing is orwellean.

What's next? Reporting mummy and daddy for saying similar things

Pippa Crerar (the journo who broke the Dominic Cummings scandal) now saying all primaries in London to shut until the 18th.

Not sure why London is special compared to other tier 4 areas, but it just shows what a bit of pressure can do.

Everyone seems to be dancing around the elephant in the room. Jeremy Corbyn is talking about scrapping Sats. The DfE is on the workload warpath. Ofsted is myth-busting itself out of the dark ages into the 21st century, saying it doesn’t care about marking any more. Almost a third of teachers quit in the first five years, and those who stay are burning out in record numbers.

Let me clear up this edu-mess for you. It’s not Sats. It’s not workload. The elephant in the room is high-stakes accountability. And I’m calling bullshit. Our education system actively promotes holding schools, leaders and teachers at gunpoint for a very narrow set of test outcomes. This has long been proven to be one of the worst ways to bring about sustainable change. It is time to change this educational paradigm before we have no one left in the classroom except the children.
