What kind of father or older brother figure would Diluc be? How would he treat people who he knows he either indirectly or directly imprints on? and most importantly, do you think diluc would want to try to guide them to becoming something he wants to see them becoming, or let them grow on their own, only stepping in when he needs to? this ofc applies not just for immediate family but just... anyone who he becomes fond of
ohhh this is a really good question and i’ve thought about this a fair amount thank you for asking
diluc would be a very protective family figure. it was naturally the other way around with kaeya, where diluc was often the protected party simply because kaeya was more mature and more perceptive while diluc wore his heart on his sleeves. his older brother always seemed unperturbed by everything, clearly giving off the impression that he could take care of himself on his own, so diluc’s protective instincts rarely kicked in for kaeya. but they are still very much there ! and they would surface should he ever find himself feeling responsible for someone younger or generally less experienced.
he’s not overbearing, though. the uncrowned king of mondstadt places high value on freedom, something he was arguably deprived of himself growing up. not that he wasnt given a choice and that he didnt wholeheartedly want to do what he was doing. but, his aspirations were heavily warped and influenced by the people around him and the expectations placed on him, especially by his father. diluc lived to make people proud and worked on that tirelessly, and by extension, theres no telling how he would have turned out if he had entirely been left to his own devices. one thing’s for sure is that it stunted him in his emotional and critical growth, and made it all the more traumatizing when what happened happened.
that is to say he understands the importance of giving people ample room to grow and decide who they want to be on their own, even in a context where he wants them to thrive and be safe. he is not the kind to push his own ideals -cough-crepus-cough- onto someone else, especially someone he knows looks to him for guidance.
using klee as an example because i’ve already talked a fair amount about diluc taking her under his wing (shoutout to tea for indulging me at literally every turn)- he thinks it’s absolutely cruel to discipline her through solitary confinement. she would gain a lot more from being helped to learn how and when and where to channel her energy and enthusiasm, than she does by being forced to suppress it. and this is something he knows firsthand, having sacrificed his childhood to knighthood and having lost his sense of identity along the way.
dont get me wrong, diluc is not a perfect role model or parenting figure, and he’s aware of this. he doesnt himself have the maturity to be fully responsible for another human being, mainly because, again, he’s been emotionally stunted in his growth and is very traumatized and only sort of came to terms with this a year ago when he almost died on his fool’s errand - meaning he has only really been developing into his own person over the course of said year. as a result his mentor methods might very well be questionable at times. all the while being effectively protective.
tl;dr using klee again for an example, he’d be the kind to show her the best spots to let loose and blow shit up, while making sure she remains within arm’s reach so he can grab her by the backpack and pull her back to safety when fire gets out of control
@primomade
Well this isn’t right... Bubu Pharmacy’s supposed to be open, but... nobody’s at the counter. Are they in another room or something? It’s bad business etiquette to leave the front counter unattended like this. Oh well, might as well see if anyone’s home.
“Helloooooo? Is anyone here? I have good mora to pay!”
@primomade said: " Careful, careful! You might want to watch out for that! " Hu Tao promptly appears before her, leaning down, reaching down, and plucking up a banana peel that was likely tossed by a mindless pedestrian earlier. " These things might look harmless, but I've seen someone pull some crazy flips after stepping on these~! You can thank me later. Maybe over a nice cup of tea! "
She nearly started - she hadn’t heard the woman approaching...that in and of itself was curious; nearly no one manage to get the drop on her...at least not of the human persuasion anyway - how strange; she canted her head at the woman from beneath the hood of her cowl, golden eyes fluorescing under the dim light.
“...I’m not the fondest of crowds...or populated areas - I would be glad to oblige you, provided you don’t mind a more private venue.”
" Those braids... " Hu Tao muses, leaning in close to Venti, reaching a hand out, unceremoniously touching his braids, " those eyes, " she's point out next, her own practically star-lit eyes engaging in his, " and that smile...! " .... it's hard to tell if Venti's even smiling, but that's beside the point. "... No doubt about it, huh! " She says, leaning back and placing her hands on her hips. " You're none other than the legendary...." Wait for it... " ... clown of Mondstadt! :D "
It was certainly far from the first time Venti has been accused of, well, being himself, but he’s certainly learned not to give it away with reactions.
But, being accused of being a clown? Oh, oh that certainly had him laughing.
“I see you’ve caught me!” He’s still laughing, but he does an overdramatic bow. “Best clown in the circus right here.”
@primomade .
Qiqi doesn’t eat food.
She has no need to. Her body now operates on pure adeptus energy. Any food eaten by her is transformed into excess energy which can either be used against her opponents or for other miscellaneous daily needs. The need to eat had been erased along with her life all those years ago, as well as any actual desire to eat or drink anything. The one thing she does consume is coconut milk, which, even though she can’t really taste it, it still feels like she can. All in all, however, enjoying food isn’t on her list of hobbies that she constantly refers to.
But for Keqing’s sake, and for the fact that she had gone out of her way to make her something, one of her special dishes involving fish, Qiqi would eat. She can’t taste any of the flavors she was going for, and only had to assume it tasted good based off of her own reactions. Had she admitted that she couldn’t taste anything at all? She couldn’t remember. That didn’t stop her from trying to enjoy it anyways, taking little chomps out of the food until it was all gone. Did she eat the bones, too, typically? Yes, but she’s probably fine.
Today, Qiqi didn’t seem to finish eating right away. In fact, a good portion of the fish still remains, so much that it felt like Qiqi was barely touching it, as pointed out by the Yuheng when her concern became palpable enough for Qiqi to notice.
“ Hooh… “ She hadn’t even realized she was just holding the fish instead of eating it. Had her mind drifted elsewhere in the middle of their idle conversation? Had she been thinking of something? She could have sworn she was, but any lingering memory of it was gone and reduced to simple, idle thoughts. Goodness, she really does feel like she’s forgetting something….
“ It’s nothing, miss Keqi. “ Keqi– a nickname she’d started calling her, based off of a minor mistake she once made that Keqing found to be endearing. “ I’m just thinking… “ About what, she wasn’t sure. It took her a good minute or so before the memories trickled back and she was reminded of why her mind drifted away in the first place.
“ It’s just…. you’re always there for me, every single day. “ Every day. She wasn’t a customer, she wasn’t just an acquaintance, she cared for her and fed her and took her out to play and did multiple things with her to keep her occupied…” I know you’re the Yuheng. I don’t remember specifically what that means… but I think it’s important. You’re probably very busy a lot. So you take time out of that business to come see me, even though you don’t have to… “ In truth, it really felt more like a…. a distant relative, in the way she treats her.
“ … Are we family, miss Keqi? “ An idle pause, before she clarifies, “ Are you my sister….? “
"Yes, we are family.” The Yuheng’s response, while half-voiced, is uttered with a clarity — a conviction — that elicits surprise, one that could be felt in the bray of her heart. She treads toward Qiqi and sits in the chair right beside her. There, she reaches forth and gently clasps their hands together.
For a few moments, all she’s able to do is ... look. Violet eyes flit between their intertwined hands and the child-adeptus herself. Objectively, neither is a view that is novel to her. It’s as Qiqi said herself: they saw one another everyday. They were accustomed to locking eyes and walking the Harbor’s streets hand in hand.
It’s only now, when her gaze is mid-drift — buffering between focal points — that Keqing realizes the difference between looking and seeing.
A soft smile manifests on Keqing’s lips — a rarity in its own right, a rarity normally reserved for Qiqi. She relinquishes her hold on the other’s hand, opting to instead lean close and envelop her into a full-fledged embrace.
“What did I tell you about referring to me as ‘Miss Keqi’?” Her inquiry is posed in full jest, but she punctuates it with a giggle to be safe. Resting a feather light chin atop Qiqi’s head, she continues ...
“It’s just Keqi. Only call me Keqi from now on. Please.” The assuredness once goading her tone suddenly falls flat, overtaken by a tremble. Her soft heart becomes softer — sweeter, saccharine even. A sigh leaves her. Is this what it meant to see, instead of to look? To unearth what lay beneath that which is of face value?
Was seeing somebody the same as learning to love them? Or loving them already?
Keqing softly squeezes the child-adeptus in her arms, almost as if to remind herself that this is real — that she loves and is loved in return. She then guides one hand to the small of her back and pats it soothingly.
“There’s no need for formality around family. There’s no need for it between sisters, either.” Cue yet another giggle ... one that comes more freely this time. Keqing lifts her head ever so slightly and presses her lips to the crown of Qiqi’s head. “You can be your whole self around me, alright?”
@primomade liked this for a one-liner!
ƸӜƷ | “Awww, c’mon, Qiqi--! I promise I won’t bury you super deep into the dirt this time!~”
@primomade sent: Oh goodness, oh goodness, is her hair alright? Yes, of course! Of course it is. She spent what felt like this entire morning practicing in front of a mirror! Holding herself proper, straight stance, hands folded at her hips, a smile on her face, a pleasant glint on her face...! All she had to say was one thing to him, one little thing! " Good evening, Mister Raguna! " ..... it's not even noon yet. Ah crap. Oh dang it. Oh crud. Oh no-- she flubbed it. FLUBBED IT. she's hiding a crisis.
What makes this really amusing is that Raguna hadn’t spent much time himself getting ready for the day. He wasn’t running late by any means, but a rare scatter of the brain had him wearing his undershirt inside out- and he could only hope that people wouldn’t pay attention to it now that he was already out and about in Mondstadt doing his errands for the morning. The fields had recently been cleared and there were a number of establishments expecting produce and otherwise from his latest harvest. He also had a visit to the blacksmith... ah, how frustrating. How embarrassing.
So when he encounters Noelle after unloading a box of fruit for one of the popular taverns you may forgive him for looking a bit startled himself. For one such as her who he saw as being very well kept and trim she’d definitely notice this. There’s a gulp as she approaches and greets him enthusiastically about-- eh?
Raguna blinks, and even if he’s not sure he heard her correctly there’s an instinctive turn of the head to look at the sky, searching for the sun to make sure not too much time had actually passed and the farmer had somehow lost half the day.
“Oh, hello Miss Noelle, you almost scared me there for a moment. If it were already after noon I’d wonder how I hadn’t collapsed with hunger, let alone how I’d finish the rest of my errands and chores for the day. But yes, it is a nice morning, isn’t it? Ahaha.” Good, this was... good in an unfortunate way. Less chance for her to notice him and how silly he knew he looked. Maybe he should just dip into an alley or restroom and try to change it back around but-- ah, by now they may be sweaty and oh Gods this is not good. He may just have to bear with it.
“With how you ran off the other day you must have been busy. I hope you’ve gotten things a bit more under control? I have to be honest, it’s hard watching you struggle, I wish there was more I could do to help in turn.”
