Sarah Ferguson was born in London and knew Prince Andrew, the son of Elizabeth II since childhood and would bump into one another at polo matches. The couple married at Westminster Abbey in 1986. The couple had two children, Beatrice (1988) and Eugenie (1990) who are in line to the succession of the British throne.
In 1988, in New York, Sarah was attacked by a man standing at the entrance of her hotel. He screamed ‘murderers 3/8’ and had the Irish Republic Army flag in his hands when he rushed towards Sarah. Sarah was unharmed and he was charged with attempted assault.
The public fell in love with Fergie and saw her as down-to-earth with a great sense of humour. Sarah got along well with Diana, Princess of Wales and during her marriage she was bullied by the media due to her weight. Sarah and Andrews relationship were on the rocks and Sarah would often be in the company of men. The couple divorced in 1996, if she married again, she would lose her title of Duchess of York.
In 2010, Sarah was secretly filmed with an undercover reporter offering him access to Prince Andrew for a large amount of money and leaving with a briefcase of money. Due to the scandal, she wasn’t invited to Prince William and Kate Middleton’s wedding in 2011. In 2010, Sarah declared bankruptcy with debts of around 2 to 5 million. In 2010, it was reported that Jeffrey Epstein helped her avoid bankruptcy by paying off some of her debts.
In 2009, Sarah produced the film The Young Victoria (2009), Beatrice featured in the film. She works with numerous charities, is a writer, and has appeared on numerous television programs such as The Vicar of Dibley.
