I also have another question. In your opinion what are the best mods to get? I've had skyrim for years and finally got an awesome gaming computer with the capacity to mod.
Okay, I don’t really know your actual specs so I’m going to be as universal as I can with these. Mods are preference as well, the mods I have will differ greatly from yours.
I’m not going to link to these mods, but every mod I will list can be found on the Nexus unless I say otherwise!
As a starting point, get SKSE. You won’t be able to use many mods without it.
Anything bolded is what I currently use.
**A little thing about mods, when looking for them you might see a review that makes the mod seem amazing but then you hear it causes issues like save bloating, crashes, etc. So always go on a little search when you’re installing big mods, lil’ npc mods don’t do damage but stuff like additional animations (with an .esp in them) will if used incorrectly, or sometimes them modder was incompetent.**
Sooo let’s start with visuals!
- ENB’s. Some will eat your performance like nothing and some will do little damage, they’re all based on what you prefer.
- Tamriel Reloaded HD, Skyrim HD 2k Textures, any big texture enhancer (those are the first 2 that came to mind but there’s a few more and there’s even a Texture Combiner to avoid conflicts if you use 2+)
- Water mods like Pure Waters, W.A.T.E.R, and the like.
- Weather mods can conflict with ENB’s, BUT some do not. If you so choose them, then Pure Weather or Climates of Tamriel are nice options.
- Lighting mods also conflict with some ENB’s, but there’s Enhanced Lights and FX and Realistic Lighting Overhaul to name a couple
- Skyrim Flora Overhaul, Verdant, tons and tons of flora mods
- No More Blocky Faces, ApachiiSkyhair, The Eyes of Beauty, Coverkhajits and JazzJR Argonian retexture, and tons and tons more of player/npc textures.
- AMidianBorn retextures (book of silence), HD thieves guild armor, and maaany more HD textures + new armors.
Etheral Cosmos and Inside the Nebula - Night sky. Pretty. Whoaaa.
Ultra High Definition Enhanced Vanilla Dragons, 4k-8k Dragons, Bellyaches HD dragons. DRAGONS.
I could go on forever, but check out the models and textures section of the Nexus for more!
Gameplay mods or patch mods.
- Are The Unofficial Skyrim Patch and its DLC patches. It fixes a number of bugs that the official patch left out.
- TES5Edit. (don’t mess with this without video instruction or you’ll break your game) Cleans up dirty edits and can possibly fix crash problems in the game. Did for me.
- SkyUI fixes that UI from that Xbox-lookin thing into something actually suitable for PC.
- SSME - allocates more memory for skyrim. prevents crashes. saves a life.
- ENBoost - **If you’re using a newer ENB binary (0.195+) it comes with ENBoost.** CTD and memory patcher.
- Racemenu and showracemenu precachekiller - more customizable player, and a ctd patch.
- Better Dialogue Controls so the game can stop thinking you hit the bottom option when you hit the middle.
- Player Headdtracking because the Dovahkiin does not have a stiff neck and is not unaware of their surroundings.
- A Quality World Map - Now you can actually know where you are and where you are going!
-A Matter of Time - game time and real time clock HUD because I need to tell time dammit.
- The Paarthurnax Dilemma. Just get it.
- Face Light - because I need to see my dang face in those dark caves.
- Dragons Shout with Voice - Because “Rooooaaar” is totally a Thu’um?? Now they actually SAY the Thu’ums.
- Extensible Follower Framework, Ultimate Follower Overhaul, Amazing Follower Tweaks. More followers, they do stuff. Get ya squad going.
And there is so many more, I probably left some out.
aaaaannd if you love being immersed in the game these are the mods 4 u.
- Interesting NPC’s. Big file warning, mod manager might disagree with it a bit but it’s an overall wonderful mod that took a lot of love and hard work. I can’t play my game without it.
- Convenient Horses+Herding. Your horse will never die ever again, and with herding you can have 30 of them! Win-win!
- Guard Dialogue Overhaul. Finally, the Dovahkiin gets some respect around here.
- Immersive Armors - Adds a plethora of armors from many modders into one giant mod! Fair waring, delete any mods that use armors from this mod already…will cause crashes!
- Cloaks of Skyrim - *begins to sing Misty Mountains*
- Sabre Gear Backpack - Fitting for those long treks to High Hrothgar!
- Dovahkiin Relaxes Too - Want to chill by a fence or warm your hands or pray to the almighty Talos like Heimskr? Now you can!
- Take Notes, Journal of the Dragonborn - “Morndas, 7th of Frostfall, my quill broke so I’m writing with some woodchips.”
- AOF Believable Hair or Superior Lore Friendly Hair. NPC’s Vanilla Hair should look just as pretty as ours! But we’re still the most ballin.
- Enhanced Camera - Better first person view, first person view on horse/dragon.
- Deadly dragons, Bellyache’s new dragons, etc etc dragons dragons dragons so many dragons.
- Inigo. He’s a perfect start if you want a modded follower.
Katie’s Personal Favorites That Were Not Listed Already (I’m too lazy to bold these, but they’re in my game)
- (on steam) Shut Up those “Stupid Dog” comments
- Dragon Animation Replace
- Konahriks Accoutrements
- VictoriaG Menu Replacer
- Real Time Dragon Fast Travel
- Camping Kit of the Northern Ranger
and there are so many more, but that is where I start you off! If you want any more suggestions lemme know!
