I'm learning after buying a gen 2 prius (a strange machine built like a gaming console, kind of the DSi of cars) that most of the issues I'm running into with this vehicle are not what I would consider to be car guy problems; they are instead computer guy problems.

oh, the 12v battery is dead? great news, it can run on a fucking mobility scooter battery, dw about it!

speakers blown out? I can fix that easy, and I'll even install an iPod integration setup while I'm at it. the touchscreen doesn't always work on one side? well. that's what happens when a touchscreen from 2008 sits in the sun too long. works fine if I remember the sun shield.

and the dashboard lights don't turn on sometimes? well. I can use the buttons and knobs to enter like seven different cheat codes that might turn them on, but tbh the car still runs fine even without knowing how much gas I have or what speed I'm going. I'll just fill up often and use my phone's GPS as a speedometer until I have some downtime, and then the prius discussion forums have posts on how to solder the circuit board so it works again.

oh whoops the car won't always turn off so I have to hold down the button until it shuts down did I buy a car or did I buy a laptop? don't ask me how to deal with actual car problems; I'm too busy holding down the DISPLAY button while switching the lights on and off so I can access the secret service menu.

ridiculous vehicle. glad I talked the guy down in price because it's also mildly a nightmare. but. but. I am having fun!

what car would each of the animorphs drive

Rachel: Boosted pickup truck. Maybe she's a liiiittle aggressive when she's driving it, but at least no one messes with her when they see her coming. Plus, she gets all the frilly accessories: spoiler, chrome rims, custom bumper, extra exhaust ports.

Cassie: Early hybrid adopter. The Toyota Prius was the first hybrid released for customers in the U.S. in 1999, so she'd be able to get one in 2001. She'd be a trend-setter because those were widely mocked when they first came out, but if an Animorph drives one then maybe they catch on faster.

Jake: Canonically gets gifted a Jaguar in #54, but I don't think that's his style. I think if there wasn't a free car sitting around that'd otherwise go to waste, he'd just buy himself a boring little sedan (Honda Civic, maybe?) and get around incognito that way.

Ax: Motorcycle. Wind in his hair, bugs in his teeth, roar in his ears. It's agile and flashy, just like him. Plus it's much cheaper to gas up and maintain than a car, which saves all those Earth monies for important things like habanero donuts and vinegar syrup.

Tobias: Would not see the point in learning to drive.

Marco: Canonically has "a canary-yellow Viper, a red Maserati, and a desert-camouflage Humvee" in #54. Would probably have like 8 other cars on top of that, whatever catches his eye and/or gets gifted to him for promotional reasons. That said, I also headcanon him tending to give cars away to party guests, to panhandlers, as tips at restaurants, the whole shebang. So he'd need a constant supply of new ones, because they never last long.

a Toyota Prius has a Limited Ryu Number of 2 due to being selectable as an assist character in the CHUNITHM games (if you did a 2016 event) as well as Joker

a large number of anime characters have a 2 for this same reason
