M-League may be privatised by next year
The privatisation of the M-League could take place as early as next year, according to Football association of Malaysia (FAM) deputy president Datuk Seri Afandi Hamzah.
Afandi said the FAM was in the process of finalising details for the privatisation process before being implemented.
“We have started drafting the plan since last year and believe it is still in the right track. Privatisation of the M-League will be the right step forward in developing football in the country,” he told reporters after watching a football match at the Sultan Muhammad IV Stadium, here Tuesday night.
“We are currently in the process of setting up a body that will manage the M-League once it is privatised.”
Afandi said all teams and stake holders would be briefed of the privatisation plan before being implemented.
“We will call all the participating teams and tell them the guidelines and criteria that will be expected of the club presidents once the M-League is privatised,” he said.
Afandi also expressed confidence in the new leadership of the FAM, in strengthening the status and development of football in the country.
“About 80% in the list of office bearers elected into the FAM office are new faces and I am certain there will be holistic changes in the entire scope of football in the country.
“The new president has his vision and mission for the development of football in the country and we are all ready to support him,” he said.
