I think the important thing about the finale is that it WASNT fanfiction. It wasn’t this long, painful story tied up with a neat little bow where they live happily ever after, because that’s not the point. Crowley and Aziraphale love humanity so much that they know their own existence as angels demons is harmful, and they need to get rid of it. They’re in love with each other, yes, but it’s shown time and time again that their greatest love is people. And they saved their greatest love, rather than running off into the sunset together.

Also!!!! They were SAD! They were constantly separated from each other, lived a life of pain and heartbreak, and scared to love one another! In this new world, God gave them the chance to love each other freely, and they took it! People saying that they’re not the “real” Crowley and Aziraphale are valid, but I also think the two of them would be happy if they could see what came of them.

It’s not a true happily ever after because it’s a real story that has greater meaning than the two main characters making out, and art isn’t made to make you feel good. Sometimes its goal is to make you HURT so you CARE.

And to all the people mad that they didn’t kiss? Calling it queerbaiting? Bullshit. This is a gay romance, with far deeper love than two guys fucking. I would argue that this is more beautiful and deep and poetic a representation of queer love than Heated Rivalry (and this is coming from someone who LOVES HR)

The finale had its flaws, but it was beautiful in the end. And I’ll go read some fanfiction where the OG Crowley and Aziraphale live happily ever after because that’s what fanfiction is for, not the actual media.

Just watched the final scene in the bookshop and the final dialogue happening in it, for the third time

And it makes so much sense. God's play is over, their characters' story, this universe is over.

It was already settled from the beginning. If they (Az and Cr) had decided to continue with this universe, it would only have postponed the problem and the inevitable.

"I will give you this one and only descision"

And they chose to free humanity from this playful and vile god and give humanity another chance to exist, and free.

"I want a REAL universe"

For the first time the characters were able to make a choice in the story instead of the author, who only wanted to play with them like ragdolls. She was an unloving God, and they knew it.

My 10 year old asked to watched the GO finale. So I finally had my second watch.

My kids unprompted opinion as I was tucking him into bed:

“I really liked the final episode, it was really sweet they got married in the end. I was waiting for that the whole time. I wish they would have recognized each other or at least said “you look familiar” or something, but that’s okay. It was still good.”

It makes me so happy that he, at 10 years old can watch this and root for queer love alongside his love for all things Legos, Jurassic Park and fart jokes. That he asked to watch Good Omens and was waiting for two old guys to get married. It’s just the best.

I think part of the reason why a lot of people think GO3 is the ineffable husbands committing suicide is because they missed the part where they were already dead. The book of Life was burned, god said outright she had no intention to make another one and was just going to let the bookshop and everything else disappear once the conversation was done. Maybe she’d make another eventually, but then what? It still wouldn’t be the same two characters, and the earth would still suffer under this unjust system. Aziraphale and Crowley refused to go gently into that good night, essentially, and fought to let the universe exist and become better for it. They would be dead either way, but now, the world is free of heaven and hell and they get to be in love in every lifetime. The show (and the book but people are NOT ready for that conversation) is very much about this unjust system that needs to be dismantled. They tried doing it from the outside, and then from the inside, but they were just prolonging the inevitable. As long as there was god there would never be a happy ending, so they made one through the power of their love

no hate to anyone that doesn’t like the good omens finale, obviously, but i genuinely loved it. to me it felt like a fitting ending, and it made me sob like a baby which is always greatly appreciated

DESPITE my love for good omens 3, i will still be reading a million fix-it fics to heal my soul from all the crying i’ve done recently 🫠

honestly i think all opinions on the finale are pretty valid! there were some plot holes and some really sad things, but ultimately i think what happened was in character, and it makes sense within the context of the episode, even if there were some contradictions with season 1. the ending i know alot of people are upset about, i honestly dont mind the concept of how they did it, but i do think it could have been done better. i just didnt really see them in the ending :(.

tldr; i dont think it was terrible, but there were some things that could have been done better, especially with more time

ik this has been very vague but i’ll elaborate more with spoilers under the cut, if youre ok with reading spoilers

the biggest plot hole, from my perspective, was how humans apparently didnt have free will throughout the series, even though we saw, over and over again, especially in the first season, that they did. between Job and Adam and The Them, we saw that humans had always had free will. so crowley saying that they didnt is a little confusing to me

while im devastated that aziraphale and crowley as we knew them died, i do think its in character. if we pretend for a minute that the free will thing makes sense, then of course aziraphale and crowley would sacrifice themselves to give humanity a chance to do what they want, without heaven and hell controlling them. their mutual love of humanity is what made them fall for eachother! they would do anything for humans, whether i like it or not.

now, i know alot of people hated the human ending. keeping in mind that i accepted the previous part about the universe ending, i love that we still got them. However, did struggle to see our angel and demon in Aza and Antony. While they might have resembled them in image and profession, they didnt have aziracrow’s dynamic. maybe if they had met in a garden, or in a rainstorm or while watching a meteor shower… maybe if somehow they had gotten their memories back… but no. thats honestly my biggest complaint though, and i feel like maybe God made a bunch of different universes, and maybe each of those things gets to happen in a different universe. maybe aza and antony arent the only human ending :)
